The MLK marches and attendant violence were about civil rights.
Todays marches are only about redistribution of income.
I’m not listening to the media. I almost never do because it’s a waste of time having to unravel all the lies and distortions. I watched the video, talked with actual police officers, and had discussions with actual police officers (including ones who train others) in dedicated LEO forums. Have not yet encountered one single police officer defending kneeling on the neck. Universally, every verified LEO I’ve seen or heard discussing this video said 1) kneeling on the shoulder blade is okay, but only for a short period while cuffing someone who is actively resisting, NEVER on the neck because it provides no mechanical advantage over the shoulder blade and is far too dangerous 2) keeping a subject prone after handcuffing is dangerous, let alone physically held down while prone and handcuffed, let alone with a knee on the neck and 3) nobody trains to restrain someone like this because it would be insane and you’d have people dying in custody all the time.
Most of the LEOs I’ve see or heard discussing this think the officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck is a complete idiot whose reckless actions resulted in the death of a man in custody and under control. Few seem to view it as an intentional act of homicide; just an act of complete and total incompetence.
I have no particular urgency to reach a conclusion about a case that’s ongoing. That’s been my argument all along in the Arbery case, both against those seeking to convict Arbery’s killers on the spot and against those claiming there’s no need for a trial because those good men were merely performing a public service. But based on the direct, clear video evidence and discussions with active and retired officers, I see nothing that prevents me to draw the conclusion that the officer behaved in a totally reckless fashion that at the very least contributed to (if not directly caused) the death of a man in his custody. That has legal consequences, or at least it ought to. We’ll have to see how the case progresses. I’m certainly not in favor of any mob justice; I want a fair trial conducted with an impartial jury. And based on what I’ve seen, I hope he’s convicted of something for this.
:)
I think you are exactly right, and for the exact reasons you mentioned. Perps had been using it as an excuse for so long, no rational cop would buy it.
It’s a drip. Eventually a drop goes over the top. Perception is reality, even when it isn’t. People who feel picked on eventually pop. Also there’s a lot of covid fever in this. EVERYBODY feels picked on right now. Then there was one more drop for some. WOOSH
