During an early-morning press conference, New York City Police Commissioner Dermot Shea described a “chaotic” scene that had unfolded two hours earlier, which ended with a police officer stabbed in the neck and two other officers shot in a violent ambush and shootout in Brooklyn.

“What we know at this time is that it appears to be a completely cowardly, despicable, unprovoked attack on a defenseless police officer, and thank God we’re not planning a funeral right now,” Shea told reporters.

“At approximately quarter till midnight, without warning, video surveillance shows a male walk up to the officers casually, take out a knife, and stab one of the officers in the neck,” he said. “That officer was stabbed in the left side of his neck, thank God, missing an artery, and is recovering here in stable condition at the hospital.”

I keep thinking of the movie "The Hunt for Red October" where the Navy officer says, "This gonna get out of control."

It’s okay.

Democrats tell us that, it’s for the general good.

Overall, law enforce isn’t the problem nor ever was. It’s what takes place after violators goes to jail. Now, that’s a problem

Wasn’t it Bill Clinton who put 100,000 more cops on the streets? So if cops are the problem should Bill Clinton and his party be blamed?

That was a phony political move, since the funding wasn't there to get it done. I remember cities complaining about how the funding wasn't going to be there after the initial hiring of the Clinton police officers.

November is right around the corner, I wonder if the Police Unions will be able to convince their rank and file to vote Democrat after this.

More important, I wonder if rank and file will vote out Union leadership.

I think most police officers would prefer to complain and put up with the hostile conditions. Once they've become established in their jobs, they'll be there for life, thanks to the unions. It's the unions that people should be rioting and protesting about.

Funny how liberals will complain about a problem and then vote in the same person who created the problem. Hard to understand.

With deBlasio’s continued lack of support for the police, his plans to reduce funding, and instant release of most rioters, why should any police officer risk anything? If the city spent a week with a severe case of blue flu, maybe attitudes would change or at least be told to call the mayor, not 911 if you want help.
