Two Buffalo police officers have been suspended without pay following an incident caught on camera, showing them shoving an elderly man, causing him to stumble backward and fall, injuring his head.

The video shows the 75-year-old man approaching officers during a tense protest in Niagara Square and the situation escalating quickly, as the officers shoved the man, who stumbled backward and fell. The graphic video shows the elderly man lying on the ground with blood gushing from what appeared to be his right ear:

It looks like they were moving in formation, meaning on their way to deal with some specific disturbance.
The leader of that group may have said
‘Keep Moving!’

The scene looks worse in retrospect because none of the officers stopped to render aid to the old fellow who got knocked off balance. As I stated before, that was mostly his fault for blocking the path of this moving group of police.
You don’t do that without expecting some level of push back.
Literal pushback in this case.

> What could an old man say that could cause this? <

Nothing he could have said was worth laying hands on him. Nothing.

I watched the video, twice. It looks like the old guy touched one of the cops with his cell phone. Then he got shoved back, hard. Was the old guy acting stupidly? Probably. Did the cop overreact? Certainly.

For those who might disagree, suppose I get in a heated argument with some old guy. And he brushes my arm with his cell phone. That’s no threat to my safety, at all. Do I have the right to push him back, hard? There is a disparity of force, to my advantage. So I’d say no, I don’t have the right to push him back, hard.

Apparently he had some kind of blood sack in his mask designed to leak out his ear.

It’s a set up.

Old man had heart just not the legs required to be out challenging the law.

Glad he didn't die.

The Video shows him reaching towards the gun- during protests that everyone knows have been violent for over a week now— Pretty sure that’s a huge no-no- You can clearly see the fella reach his hand out in the direction of the gun- He did have something in his hand, however, what is to stop a crazed angry individual from grabbing the gun? Not suggesting he was- but seriously- you don’t go up- get in the face of police- then reach towards a gun- something in hand or not- BOTH parties, in the heat of the moment- didn’t use good judgement

Can’t view video from twitter anymore- they won’;t allow views unless signed in- but you could clearly see the man square up against police- He initiated the confrontation, and you can clearly see him reach at waist level towards the cop- where the cop was holding the gun- Not to be callous, and sorry the fella suffered for his actions- but as soemoen said ‘play stupid games, get stupid rewards’

"Taunt and provoke the police and hope somebody over-reacts.”

Actually, that's the left's tactic with society in general, and conservatives in particular. They keep pushing on the craziest points, making ludicrously false claims which the MSM let go unchallenged, escalating tension, engaging in rioting and looting, HOPING to get an extreme overreaction. They are trying to create white-supremacists and right-wing militias. That is one of their fondest dreams.

Not saying I like it. But what they are leaving out is that a 6’5 white man defied numerous orders to walk away. ANd he did not. He did not look like a 75 year old man. I would have just hand cuffed him. But the push was not intended to harm him.

**Clearly a soccer player. The cop barely touched him.**

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eggshell_skull

The eggshell rule....[1] is a well-established legal doctrine in common law, used in some tort law systems,[2] with a similar doctrine applicable to criminal law. The rule states that, in a tort case, the unexpected frailty of the injured person is not a valid defense to the seriousness of any injury caused to them.

This rule holds that a tortfeasor is liable for all consequences resulting from their tortious (usually negligent) activities leading to an injury to another person, even if the victim suffers an unusually high level of damage (e.g. due to a pre-existing vulnerability or medical condition).....

I'm 73....part of aging is to know your limitations. I would not even think about going out on these protests. It did not look to me like the officer pushed him that hard...it's different when a twenty year old falls than when a 75 year old does....this gentleman should not have inserted himself into that situation!!!

Probably should have just cuffed him for failing to obey a lawful order. They were clearing the area and instead of arresting people they tend to push them back. After it happened and there was blood, they should have rendered aid.

I think the cops were in the wrong here. But I certainly agree with you. No harm was intended.

By the way, a nightstick held horizontally can be used - with gentle pressure - to move someone out of the way. I wonder why that wasn’t done.

He did not need to be approaching the moving line at all. Disobeying direct orders. It was moderately heavy handed but we have lost sight that when an officer of the law gives a direct order it is likely stupid to do the opposite.

It was hard to watch because of the sound of his head hitting the pavement.

The cop who did this was in the wrong. However, these cops have been at it for a week now. They are tired, angry, and in full tactical mode.

Overall the fact that everybody and their sister has a video camera now I’ll called an iPhone and can upload it to the web instantaneously is a very very very good thing

This old man should not have been there should not of walked up to the police and deserved everything that he got That said I’m glad he’s OK

Right now the police are very on edge - they’re sick and tired of this crap as are all Americans !!!!!

so all those idiots should just stay home !!!!

if you want to protest do whatever the cops say and show that you’re a good little protester

Sundance @ CTH thinks he was trying to scan the police radio to clone encrypted
channel. Watch what he does with his phone. You do not reach for a policeman’s
gun belt in a volatile situation and not expect to be pushed back.

Old man had a helmet in his hand. He wasn’t there for fun and games.

Shouldn’t have walked up on the cops; shouldn’t have made motions towards the cop’s arm; shouldn’t have disobeyed police orders to back up; shoulda left his helmet on...

Old man got what he deserved.

Watch it again.

He appears to be using his phone as a camera or some type of scanner. First one officer, then the other.

One suggestion was that he is trying to scan the officer’s radio frequency so they can be tracked.

I agree. When I watched the video it was clear the man approached the Officers in an aggressive manner. It seemed as though the one Officer shoved the man to get him out of the way. It did not seem like an overreaction on the part of the Officer. The only troublesome part is that both Officers looked at the man lying on the ground bleeding and simply walked away. But, that does not mean the Officers intended to cause serious bodily injury to the man.
