Council President Lisa Bender told CNN that with the nine votes the city council members would have a veto-proof majority of the council's 13 members.
Sunday's pledge was an acknowledgment that the current system is not working, Bender said.
"(We need) to listen, especially to our black leaders, to our communities of color, for whom policing is not working and to really let the solutions lie in our community," she said.
Pressed for details on what the dismantling might look like, Bender told CNN she was looking to shift police funding toward community-based strategies and that the city council would discuss how to replace the current police department.
"The idea of having no police department is certainly not in the short term," she added.
Bender and other council members analyzed the nature of 911 calls by constituents, she said, and found most were for mental health services, health and EMT and fire services.

Democrats have power in urban areas and seem intent on defunding or abolishing the police in LA, Minneapolis, and New York City for openers. The American people must be reminded that they also want to disband Federal police agencies such as ICE and the Border Patrol. Rip currents in the ocean are below the surface, silent, very powerful and once in them , you can’t swim out. The backlash to all this nonsense will be be a rip current felt on election day.

Well, the progs nationwide need a solid, irrefutable, unmistakable example of just how stupid their “ideas” really are.
If they do this PDJT needs to immediately remove and redeploy every single federal LEO in the area so as there will be no one that can answer a call from the Mayor or City Council.
When all the criminals from the surrounding area converge there will be nothing to do but fly over it with news helicopters as it will not be remotely safe to be on the ground.

OK enough of my yap yappin'. It just seems to me the Dems have built a stage in Minneapolis, and by 'democrats' I mean the global lefties who call the shots for the democrats and the European/Canadian leaders, UN etc.

Remember John Adams said something to the effect that our constitution is meant for only a moral and religious people, and is inadequate for the governing of any other.
I would take that idea, and say that a lack of a police force can only be done in places where you have a moral and ethical law-abiding citizenry.
Cities full of Lawless people and youth gangs need to have a larger police force than places with little crime.
What businesses will rebuild without police protection?
Now is the perfect time for the police to go on strike. Why should teachers only get to. I hope every last cop in Minneapolis goes on strike starting now. Let’s see how they like it in the city.

Why not? The current system doesn’t work....at least for lawbreakers. Guess it will be strictly vigilante justice for all if the police dept. is done away with. I’m sure sure every city in America will be wanting to do this after they see how well it works out for Minneapolis. Well, even if it doesn’t work out, at least the people who have decided to do this will be getting what they deserve.

So, in the end, the city will be paying 80% of the cost for no police work.

Do it and see what happens. In one week after passage, the law will be revoked and every council member that voted for it will be voted out of office—that is if voters have a brain and any morality, something I am not so sure of.
