Gov. Cuomo Threatens to Reverse New York Reopenings After Receiving 25,000 Complaints

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has warned that the state’s phased reopening may have to be reversed after tens of thousands of complaints of violations of social distancing and other emergency requirements were received statewide.

The governor revealed June 14 during a daily press briefing that more than 25,000 complaints were made against businesses in New York—the state hardest hit by the CCP virus—with the majority of the complaints in Manhattan and the Hamptons, affluent beach communities on the east end of Long Island.

People with open containers in the street can be fined.
Police & protesters not wearing masks can be fined.

“We’re getting reports from all across the state that there are large gatherings, social distancing is being violated, people are not wearing masks,” Cuomo said. “We have gotten 25,000 complaints to the state of businesses that are in violation of the reopening plan.”

The state has utilized health guidelines to instruct its reopening and continued to see all measures of infection drop—new cases, deaths, hospitalizations, and positive rates among those getting tested. New York City is currently in the second phase of its reopening plan.

Cuomo warned New York City and Long Island officials that their reopenings are at risk if they don’t stop further large public gatherings that he said are threatening progress on curbing the spread of the CCP virus, commonly referred to as the novel coronavirus.

“Yes, there is a very real possibility that we would roll back the reopening in those areas,” he said at a briefing.

My office is in the City, near Grand Central. My Department is all working from home. We are an essential service, but since we can work from home we have all been doing that since early March.

Clearly, not as effective as working together. So, I came in today from the suburbs to check it out.

The City is all but empty. I trained in; about 10 people in my car. Never saw the cars so empty. No one sitting anywhere near me (masks required; 50% of the people had them on their chins since no one was anywhere near them.)

Walked around - almost nothing open. A few food chains were open and business was NOT brisk. CVS type stores open. Not local businesses.

Very depressing. Talking with some who have been coming in regularly, (we are only in Phase I here!), people were ready to come in, but when the riots happened - that was it. Anyone thinking of starting the commute - if they had the option - are choosing to stay home.

There is no reason to be here. No clients to visit or see - they are home!

I feel so sorry for all the restaurants, bars, deli’s and similar who need people to come back to have a chance of survival. Due to the two dunces - Cuomo and (sick) DeBlasio - it is going to be a very long time before we get anywhere near the volume of people in the City.

Unfortunately, maybe not until post-vaccine (not a given) and hopefully early 2021.

Very depressing.
