Colorado passed a sweeping police reform bill on Friday that, among other reforms, bans chokeholds and makes officers personally liable if they are found guilty of violating a person's civil rights. Colorado is one of the first states that will allow police officers to be financially liable for civil misconduct suits, according to the state's ACLU.
The bill, signed by Governor Jared Polis on Friday morning, mandates the following, according to CBS Denver:
All local and state police officers must wear body cameras by 2023
Body camera footage must be made public
Chokeholds are prohibited
Shooting at fleeing suspects is prohibited
Deadly force can only be used if a person's life is imminent danger
Police must report every instance in which they stop someone who they suspect of a crime; they must also include that person's race, gender, and ethnicity
Police must report other officers for wrongdoing
Officers can be held personally liable for damages up to $25,000 if they are found guilty of violating an individual's civil rights

So, how many resignation letters will show up on Monday?
Then they can’t stand in harm’s way
What officers? Will there be any left?
Many officers will quit. Or move to a friendlier state.
Many young LEO’s will resign to do something else or be a policman in another state. LEO’s eligible for retirement will retire. It will be interesting to see what happens with a small number of fully trained LEO’s and lots of trainees.
cool.
Now apply it to politicians.
Especially in sanctuary cities.
“Colorado is one of the first states that will allow police officers to be financially liable for civil misconduct suits, according to the state’s ACLU.”
Colorado can kiss their police force good bye. The lawyers will be licking their lips over the $$$$ they will rake in every time a police officer arrests or even questions a black person and gets sued for discrimination or abuse.
What about a fleeing suspect who is randomly shooting behind himself as he flees? Maybe no one's arms can reach backwards in this state.
A suspect empties his gun at police and then turns and runs. I guess the only response should be to throw him a kiss and move on. Does he have another weapon? Who cares, wave bye bye to him...
We are going to rue this day. We are twisted like a pretzel trying to appease these idiots and they will not appreciate or even acknowledge it. Never, ever enough for them.
The are liable only for $25,000. This will be covered by insurance via the union I would think.
Colorado citizens will be the victims of their stupidity. Elections have consequences and in this case deaths.
Stay in your police car, repeat the Sgt. Schultz line “I see nuthink, nuthink!”
And no arrests will be made. The cops will just let them go instead of being bankrupted by civil lawsuits.
“Police must report every instance in which they stop someone who they suspect of a crime; they must also include that person’s race, gender, and ethnicity”
How do the police know how they “identify”?
It’s fine to make cops personally responsible, we ALL should be, and well, we ARE. But in this lynch-mob world we’re living in I’d bail from the cop career double time.
Is this for real or is this a joke this can’t be for real
Not every Coloradan voted for this crap. This used to be a conservative state
Crippling the police is not a reform.
