Good luck.

Once the race hustlers get their payout and name change from the Indians and the Redskins, they’ll move on to the Braves, and the Blackhawks, and there will be much more pressure.

No one wants to be rasis.

The Blackhawks have one of the most beautiful logos in all sport. The team blows though.

For Cleveland: the legend is that the name Indians was in tribute to Louis Sockalexis, a “Native American” who played for the Cleveland Spiders. But this “is generally discredited given the discriminatory treatment of Native Americans in general, and Sockalexis in particular during that era...
“Defenders often claim there is an intention to honor Native Americans and that there are ways to do so while retaining their current representations. Opponents of Native American mascots make no distinction between respectful or disparaging usage, both being based upon stereotypes. “—Wikipedia

That team and that name have filled the Stadium since I was a kid.(Now in my 80’s) No need to change it, especially to placate a mob of Marxists.

We need to start whining about the Vikings, “Fighting Irish”, Pirates etc and make sure they get memory holed too.

All of the teams whose names are Indian-derived are paying them s compliment. This “controversy” is totally phony!

Really, the only answer is to erase all references to and depictions of “Native Americans”. Also, lots of place names need to be changed since using Anglicized versions of Native American place names is “cultural appropriation”. Eradicate all evidence that those people ever existed. Then, and only then, can everything be non-racist ... or whatever it is we are supposed to be striving for.

I have never understood the animus towards Native American themed names for sports teams.

Think about it. You want the name of your team to evoke or inspire thoughts of power, skill, coordination, speed, teamwork, triumph, ability, etc.

In other words you want your team name to inspire lots of positive things. Therefore having a team named something related to you is a compliment. It means the person or organization naming the team associates all those positive traits with your demographic. What's not to like?

I'd love to have a team associated with my demographic. However, "middle aged white dudes" probably will never be applied to anything other than maybe a 2nd-tier bowling team...

If naming sports teams after Indians is bad, then why is it good to name thousands of town and geographic places after Indians? Here are some of the great Indian names in New York State alone...

Cayuga
Seneca
Onondaga
Erie
Mohawk
Mohican
Mohegan
Montauk
Delaware
Oneida
Tonawanda
Tuscarora
Saratoga
Schoharie
Oriskany
Canandaigua

Growing up in upstate New York, I was always fascinated by these great names and the people who lived there before whites came. Later I became a huge fan of James Fenimore Cooper and his “Leatherstocking Tales.” Are we going to erase all these great names from history, too?
