There have been recent articles of virus spike on the southern borders of Texas, Arizona, and California. Mexicans coming across the border to get treatment in American hospitals. Nurses saying that they pretend to be sicker than they are. Hospitals near the border can’t handle them all, so they are transported north.
And summertime is when bed utilization is at the lowest. If there is a surge - and I’m. it sure there is - now is the time to have it
The covid death definition is very simple. If you die, and you have covid, you are a covid death. Even if you die of a clear alternate cause, you are classified a covid death. Fall off a cliff to your death, but you test positive for covid, you are a covid death.
And we wonder why the numbers are all screwed up.
Now lets get into positive tests. If you go to a free drive up testing place, and test positive, you are a covid case. Go to your doctor immediately after, they will test you again, now you are two cases.
Now lets add the fact, that during testing if you have antibodies (i.e. already had it and recovered) you are counted as a case.
Even with all this “fuzzy math” we still only get numbers that are not so bad. Imagine if they weeded out all this nonsense, you would see numbers far lower than those shown here.
Deaths are not up, they have been falling since late April. Cases are up due to testing being up. And what happens when a denominator grows but the numerator does not?
I encourage everyone to dig into the numbers. Find out what the definition of each is. Once you do this, your fear bubble will dissipate.

Have any US politicians died from corona? Or from any other country for that matter? Maybe there have been some, but I can’t remember. Anybody know?

Some? Not all age groups are affected equally. No one under the age of 17 in CA has died form COVID-19. Not one death.
Except elective surgery is starting back up. Often, in cardiac cases, this is a 1 or 2 days visit to an ICU.
But generally, I agree with you.
My old hospital just laid off another 5% of the staff—mostly doin/support staff. You know—the same staff that worked like dogs for four months keeping the place cleaned, Fed, and maintained. I guess the nurses are going to have to change the light bulbs and empty the trash. (And anyone who has ever worked with cranky floor nurses knows how that will go over!)
The quarantine was never going to eliminate this virus. It would only delay it. In Michigan we got hit hard early on. But because of that we’re already on the far side of the bell shaped curve, and that much closer to herd immunity. Statewide hospitalizations are below 400 and the positive test rate is approximately 2 to 3 percent.

I would feel a lot better if we could just know the real truth about the new cases & the deaths. Don’t buy a lot of what is being passed off as truth these days. I guess that is because there seem to be too many versions of it.

I remember 2009 when over 1000 children under 14 died of swine flu. Obama did nothing and the media said nothing.

I would like to see actual death certificates that confirm that.
Every death certificate I have seen includes Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome and/or pneumonia, with COVID-19 listed as the Underlying Cause of Death.
If we counted influenza and common cold deaths the same way we count COVID-19 deaths, we would have 150,000 flu and cold deaths - EVERY year!
