President Trump announced Thursday that he is canceling the Republican National Convention events that were scheduled to take place next month in Jacksonville, Fla. – citing the rising numbers of COVID-19 in the state.
“The timing for this event is not right, it’s just not right,” Trump said during a press briefing at the White House. “To have a big convention, it’s just not the right time.”
Trump added: “There is nothing more important in our country than keeping our people safe.”

It isn’t just that jack-hole Mayor of Jacksonville ordered masking, or that the witless Sheriff trumpeted that he could not provide security:
Look at how many States with D(onk) Governors have ordered 14 day quarantines for people entering their fiefdoms from Florida.
Trump doesn’t want to subject the delegates to at least THREE weeks of lost wages: One for the convention plus TWO MORE for the quarantine.
This is “compassionate conservativism” at its best!
Shouldn’t this decision have been made by the Republican National Committee, in consultation with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, instead of by the President?
I don’t know. I think he wants to have a safe convention. He would get slammed in the press if he didn’t.
But then what else is new?
Hold the convention in South Dakota. The Governor is doing a wonderful job, SD was never locked-down and it’s right in the heartland.

Instead of a convention buy 30 minutes of primetime from all the networks and present and audio/video speech to the Nation talking about the future. Explain the importance of republican leadership holding the Senate and winning the House. Explain the significance of the judicial appointments that will either be conservative or liberal socialist. Commit to doing everything possible to get school choice in the inner cities. Recognize law enforcement of all races for the good they do across the Country and steps that will be taken to fire any that harbor hate.

I don’t think the MSM and Dems are pleased by this. They wanted the chaos in one of the largest cities with a Republican mayor. They wanted photos of the crowds with maskless Republicans, and police actions against “peaceful demonstrators”.
It was the right decision for Jacksonville, who would not get the restaurant and entertainment dollars that would come without Covid. But they would attract the radical left rioting, vandalizing and trying to assault attendees.
Interesting that after it was moved to FL, the covid numbers skyrocketed.
This will be done, but it plays right into demented Joe's hand. The debates are the only hope to expose Joe's dementia, and I think they will find an excuse to avoid debates. I think Trump needs to focus on the debates daily so that when Joe pulls out he at least has that as an issue.

Where would they put it? The capitol, Pierre, has a population of 13,646 as of the last census. Do you think they have the hotel capacity and convention facilities for the task? Granted, the attendance figures would be well down from what they would normally be, but are they really up to the task?
