The perps can’t understand that the true church is its people, not the empty medieval buildings.
I was not raised religiously, but I love my country and am grateful for its Western civilization that our Christian ancestors bequeathed us. The “empty medieval buildings” are monuments to our shared history which is under attack (as are we).
