Something was smoking there and then exploded.
This can make it more “fun”. Find the site on Google maps (they’ve already highlighted the site) and nuke it with a “terrorist nuke” and see what you get.

I doubt that it was a small nuke, though.
I’ve never seen anything like that, wow.

Shades of Henderson.

Some people did something.
Anybody claiming “credit” for the blast?
how close to Russian assets?
bomb making facility accident
it does happen
Two new Taco Bell’s?
Reports say hospitals nearby can’t treat injured because they’re so damaged.
Im no expert but that vapor cloud just prior to the explosion looks like a bleve to me.
Wow. That was a huge explosion. What was the building right next to it? Was it something people would be in or was it a bunch of storage silos? Incredible that it looked to still be standing. Really hope it was silos and not an apartment building or hotel or office building. Otherwise the death toll is going to skyrocket. Makes me think of the Texas City explosion in 1947. That killed at least 581 people and was one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history.

I just finished a book on the Halifax Harbor explosion of 1917 where a ship with 3,000 tons of high explosives detonated in the harbor. That video gives me a better sense of what the explosion must have looked like.
The book mentioned that it was the largest man-made explosion (however inadvertent) until the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima.

Had a fireworks factory blow up in a town nearby in 1997
...those not far from the explosion were entranced by the unexpected beauty of it, as what seemed like thousands of rockets exploded in the air.
...’’It was the most elaborate fireworks I’ve ever seen,’’ said Bill Slone, who was standing outside the golf cart business he runs. ‘’Then it wasn’t beautiful anymore.’’
