Unfortunately Beirut's Officials had been warned about this storage by the Port Authorities, (with 7 documentations), for years that if they didn't remove it this would be exactly what would happen......obviously those warnings were ignored. Such an unnecessary loss of life and injuries all around.

It’s amazing that they stored this in the city for 5 or 6 years. Why did they impound it and what did they intend to do with it? Why didn’t they process it into fertilizer for their farmlands? I know Lebanon is pretty dysfunctional, but some thing are just common sense.

If not, what was the detonating agent?
And was this blast without fuel oil?
