PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon State Police troopers responding to the ongoing protest-related unrest in Portland have been federally deputized, state police confirm.

State police tell KOIN 6 News they’re working with the U.S. Attorney’s Office to review arrests made by troopers assigned to Portland for potential prosecution. The troopers assigned to Portland have been cross-deputized by the U.S. Marshals.

The Multnomah County District Attorney Mike Schmidt previously announced his office would presumptively decline to prosecute certain misdemeanor charges stemming from the protests, a move which resulted in criticism from law enforcement agencies, including state police in mid-August.

“OSP is not criticizing any officials and we respect the authority of the [Multnomah County] District Attorney, but to meet the Governor’s charge of bringing violence to an end we will use all lawful methods at our disposal,” an Oregon State Police spokesperson said.

It is unclear at this time whether all arrests made by deputized state police troopers will be prosecuted on a federal level or if assaults on troopers at protests will result in charges of assault on a federal officer. KOIN 6 News has reached out for further clarification.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s office said some troopers were federally deputized earlier this summer in order to enter the Mark O. Hatfield federal courthouse, which had been the epicenter of protests for the first two months.

There's a lawless a-hole who could really learn something from a Maglite-induced sick leave.

For assaults on deputized federal officers and all other federal crimes, I think it's pretty clear who won't be deciding about prosecutions.

Sorry Schmiddy. You lose.

This is really good news.

I am curious how this got passed the governor.

Maybe that is why the state police commander (was) retired and the governor replaced him with a her.

Prosecutors declining to bring charges and judges who let criminals off with little or no consequences are the reason the riots continue.

If prosecutors and judges won't enforce the law, they should be removed and replaced.

The DA is an elected position. This is what they people of Multnomah County want. Let them have it. They are the ones allowing their own city and country to be destroyed. Let it happen. Pull all federal entities out of Portland and let it burn.

On a side note, it appears that there are some that want to make Portland out to be some uber safe liberal utopia in the Northwest. Cities like Portland and Seattle are dumps. They have out of control homeless and drug problems with incompetent city governments who just gloss over all of those issues to make it look like their cities are amazing places to live.

In my small town in the mountains of Kentucky we are hearing quiet rumblings of a BLM vigilantly group forming. Not people against BLM but BLM vigilantes who intend to go after cops and people they deem dangerous, Trump supporters. Talk about begging to do their General Custer imitation!

A black city employee chose to wear a BLM Floyd shirt to work and another employee who’s relatives are in law enforcement took issue, big blow up, loud and hostile and neither side backing down. The employee’s manager should have said no politics at work go change but didn’t.

The local university had some professor trying to stoke BLM into action on campus and he was told cease and desist and he chose to ignore the powers that be, didn’t listen and continued to foster dissent on the campus and in our little town, he came to work to find his office packed up and a termination letter handed to him.

Taylor county, here. We’re pretty like minded except for some of the professors at the University. It’s funny because it is a Christian university. I think they are so hung up on Trump’s personal foibles as a younger man that they can’t see the big picture - or the similarity to King David, a murderer and adulterer.

Brilliant strategy.

I don’t think the governor can prevent this.

Those Christians looking for perfection in a president are on a fools errand and need to understand we are electing a president, not a pastor. Samson was God’s chosen vessel and he was by no means following God’s law but the Almighty used Sampson for what had to be done at that time.
