To honor Justice Ginsburg's legacy, Biden should consider Michelle Obama (HAHAHAHHAHA!)
The Hill ^ | 9/19/2020 | roger house

This weekend, the nation will honor the legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who died at age 87; soon thereafter, former Vice President Joe Biden's campaign must seize the moment and stake out a landmark candidate to replace the beloved jurist. The nominee must be someone who advances the cause of racial and gender justice and quells Republican efforts to bum-rush a replacement.

What it means is that the Biden campaign cannot simply propose to nominate a woman of traditional qualifications for the court. If it is to make history, then it must spotlight a woman who embodies the dream of the civil rights movement. That person is former first lady Michelle LaVaughn Robinson Obama.

As the nation grapples with protests for racial justice, Obama is best positioned to symbolize the Afro-American promise. Her roots in the authentic experience of the Black urban migration connects her story to the story of pioneer civil rights figures such as Mary McLeod Bethune. Bethune rose from humble origins on a cotton plantation in South Carolina to found the Bethune-Cookman Institute in Daytona Beach, Fla., and to become an adviser to former President Franklin Roosevelt during the Great Depression.

In Obama, concerned Americans would be comforted by her well-known intellectual acumen and dedication to the goals of equal justice with fairness. She is singularly qualified to occupy the seat that inherits the ideals of Ginsburg.

According to the Attorney Registration and Disciplinary Commission of the Supreme Court of Illinois, Michelle Obama is “Voluntarily inactive and not authorized to practice law - Last Registered Year: 1993”. I guess being an active lawyer is not a requirement to be a Supreme Court Justice, but I think it would be nice to have someone who has had legal experience more recently than 27 years ago. Her real qualification is that she is married to a former President of the United States, and by virtue of that is generally the perfect person for almost any important job. She isn’t Catholic, either, but I think that when Francis’ days run out, the College of Cardinals should elect her Pope.

Don’t believe there is a constitutional requirement that a supreme court justice has to be a lawyer. However Michelle could certainly fill, and that’s the correct term, the ugly seat on the supreme court held by RBG.

Melatonin gives me crazy ass dreams that make me pop up out of sleep.

Had my wisdom teeth out some years ago and knocked back two 5mg Norco and 9mg of melatonin.

I will never, ever do that again. Didn't know where I was for about 8-12 hours.

Michelle Obama is “Voluntarily inactive and not authorized to practice law - Last Registered Year: 1993”.

And wouldn't you just love to know why a Harvard Law graduate, the ne plus ultra of US law schools, voluntarily surrenders their law license?

And no, there is no requirement for a Supreme Court Justice to be a member of the bar.

Just as an aside, there is no requirement for the Speaker of the House to be a member of Congress.
