Woman who addressed ricin letter to White House sent similar envelopes to law enforcement in Texas: Officials

A woman suspected of sending an envelope containing the poison ricin, which was addressed to the White House, has been arrested at the New York-Canada border and is also suspected of sending similar poisoned envelopes to law enforcement agencies in Texas, officials said Monday.

The letter had been intercepted earlier this week before it reached the White House. The woman was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo and is expected to face federal charges, three law enforcement officials told The Associated Press.

Her name was not immediately released, but the woman was expected to appear in federal court in Buffalo on Tuesday.

The letter addressed to the White House appeared to have originated in Canada, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have said. It was intercepted at a government facility that screens mail addressed to the White House and President Donald Trump and a preliminary investigation indicated it tested positive for ricin, according to the officials.

One of the envelopes was sent to the police in Mission, Texas, said Investigator Art Flores, a spokesman for the border community’s police department. He said no one was hurt and that the envelope was in law enforcement’s custody. He declined to comment further.

Sheriff Eddie Guerra, of Hidalgo County, Texas, said envelopes containing ricin were also “mailed to me and three of my detention staff” but no one was injured. In a tweet, he said additional information would be released Tuesday.

I would not have guessed Mission, Texas as a target.

I’m sure she did not act alone. Find out who her co-conspirators are

Nope. In most cases you don’t get a name until charges are filed.

Haven’t seen a name yet. One article (sorry, I don’t remember where) said the suspect was a teenager. That was shortly after the story broke. I have no idea if that is true, however.

If she would have been arested for self defense against antifa thugs, her name would be everywhere

Methinks they’re sitting on her name to keep from spooking possible accomplices. Guessing is so much fun; we can all have our own unsupported theories and argue forever about them. The only other thing that’s generated so much long term fun is the US Civil War. After all, the actual combat only lasted for four years, while historians have been joyously fighting over it for the last 155 years.

I think they with hold names of terrorists so they can ship them to Guantanamo or some third world country to extract info on their terror cell.

That doesn’t fly. Any accomplices will know her targets. “Mission, Texas” would clue them in. No further “spooking” possible.

Actually I kinda liked Lydia.

I mean, except for the part about being a homicidal international criminal conspirator drug manufacturing big wheel. That would be a problem...

Yes, one of the Brit papers had it, one of those with all three names as villains get in media, this time very French sounding. Let me find.

My bet is camera footage did her in. Retail establishment cameras are everywhere, and will become even more pervasive after the latest round of BLM-/Antifa-related arson and looting, given how cheap equipment, broadband and cloud storage for video have become. Prior to their ubiquity, this woman might have gotten away with her stunts, much like Ted Kacynzski. That era is now extinct.
