Berkeley in northern California will ban the sale of junk food from supermarket checkout displays -- becoming the first US city to do so, according to local media.

The city council unanimously passed a bill this week to promote healthier eating, by prohibiting products with over 5 grams of added sugar or 250mg of sodium from checkout aisles.

Drinks high in sugar and artificial sweeteners will also be restricted.

"The healthy checkout ordinance is essential for community health, especially in the time of COVID-19," said councilmember Kate Harrison.

"What is good for Berkeley customers is also good for our businesses."

I feel like walking into their next council meeting with a giant bag of potato chips and a big bowl of salsa.

I notice health food products often have cute little drawings on the front of the package to entice us to eat the inedible. I think that he cutesy artwork should be banned.

But if I want the giant-sized Zero bar and an RC Cola and I I pick them up in the aisles, they’ll still sell them to me.

About 2-3 decades ago when crime and illegals were screwing up the city councils medium size cities in California, those city councils were banning anything nuclear in their cities.

The reality was simple, there was zippo nuclear anything in those medium size cities. It was typical liberal feel good B$!

They couldn’t handle the real problems of them busting budgets to welcoming illegals and homeless druggies on their streets.

About 10 years ago these same cities banned plastic bags to carry your purchase from grocery stores and other stores.
They still busted their budgets and ignored illegals and illegal immigration and homeless druggies on their streets.

So now they are banning grocery bags to save our world while ignoring the real problems in their cities.

Don’t laugh. If anybody understands the mentality of the typical Berkeley resident it’s the duly elected members of their city council. They’re obviously drooling idiots. After all, they elected their council!

Back in the 1950’s, my Grandmother ran the register at my Dad’s small IGA grocery in downtown Indianapolis. She replaced the jars of gumballs on the counter with a jar of cookies. She preferred to sell individual cookies to the kids, or their parents, rather than chocolate bars and gumballs. Her choice was about giving the kids a healthy snack. Yes, it was a predominantly black neighborhood.
