China begins emergency use of Covid-19 vaccine despite safety concerns

Hundreds of thousands of people in China have been given a coronavirus vaccine despite the fact it has not been finally approved by regulators.

The move has prompted concerns among onlookers that China is pushing ahead to gain an edge in the race to develop a successful vaccine without following proper safety measures.

Chinese companies Sinopharm and SinoVac have given vaccine shots to more than 350,000 people in recent months and that number is likely set to rise.

The inoculations have been performed under an emergency use designation that was approved in June.

SinoVac has also provided tens of thousands of rounds of its CoronaVac for the Beijing city government.

Another candidate being jointly developed by the military and CanSino, a biopharmaceutical company, has been approved for emergency use in military personnel.

Now large Chinese firms including telecom giant Huawei and broadcaster Phoenix TV has announced they are working with Sinopharm to get the vaccine for their employees.

A health official said that China, which claims to have largely controlled the disease, needs to take steps to prevent it from coming back.

Zheng Zhongwei said at a news conference that the Chinese government referenced the World Health Organisation’s emergency-use principles to create its own through a strict process.

Mr Zheng said there have been no serious side effects in the clinical trials.

Kan Chai, a popular writer who was among those injected with the vaccine, said he had no reaction after the first dose.

But he began to feel sleepy after the second shot, saying: “When I was driving on the road, I suddenly felt a bit dizzy, as if I was driving drunk.

“So I specially found a place to stop the car, rest a bit and then I felt better.”

China’s governing body will do whatever is necessary to get out of the international shadow over their heads surrounding covid regardless of the undetermined effect on it’s people.

If China has as few cases as they claim, why are they using human beings as guinea pigs for a vaccine?

China has a lot more cases than reported, plus a flood of their rice growing area and a failing economy.

Economic collapse will kill people, and could start a civil war or revolution.

This is not just true in China but in the Philippines, in India, etc.

Without a vaccine, the lockdowns will continue and the economy suffers. Give everyone the vaccine and the economy will open. So even if the vaccine harms one out of ten thousand people, no problem because poverty kills a lot more.

And China (and Russia) will offer the vaccine to other countries while the US FDA stops the release because they fear side effects, but actually because it harms Trump.

And one wonders at the right believing the anti vax hysteria which is fueled by Russian sites that post stories and were originally picked up by hollywood leftists but now the christian right believes the fake stories.

Without a vaccine, the (two-week flatten-the-curve) lockdowns will continue and the economy suffers.

With their declared case numbers, it really doesn’t make sense.

I don't recall the exact numbers. But they have something like 4.5 times the USA population with about 1/5 the reported deaths.

Although, it might be close if you take away the USA deaths that have Covid with another health problem.

Awhile ago I was looking at the various statistics for “rape”. The rates for “rape” are very high in Europe. But just touching a female inappropriately in Europe is considered rape - so it is difficult to carry the statistics to other countries.
