I think most marriages are a mix of who is in charge. I am in charge of what happens outside of the house and she is in charge of what happens inside of the house. For instance, I had the opportunity to take a great position in overseas, but it would require sacrifice from my family. Without hesitation, she agreed with me. In the alternative, she wanted to completely rip the guts out of the house, which would require great expense and time, I agreed with her even though I saw no need to change a thing.

BUT, we both have veto power. For instance, my wife decided to redecorate our bedroom (which made no sense to me). No problem but the major color scheme was going to be pink. The bedroom was completely redone, but not in pink.

Another example. I was offered position to go to Afghanistan ( I was an officer in a narrow field) as an individual augment (you go as an individual not with a unit.). I went home to discuss with my wife. She said, "If you have to, then go. But our son is 16 and acting up, so we will have problems." I did not go.
