How to Save the NFL in Three Easy Steps

Viewership started to trend lower as thugs started to become visible in the NFL. Then came Colin Kaepernick, kneeling to show his disrespect for our country, and the NFL didn’t fine him or tell him to stop or he’d lose his job. Instead, they allowed players to kneel and disrespect our anthem and our flag, all across the NFL.

However, they can save themselves. Here is how, in three easy steps.

The NFL will return to a celebration of America and our military and police forces. They’ll put on pre-game and halftime shows that rival the musical sequences in Captain America. Troops will be honored. The colors will be marched into the stadium with a full military honor guard. The National Anthem will be sung with dignity and pride, and every player on the field will stand with their right hand over their heart. If they don’t, they will be at the curb with their duffle bag within minutes. Do you want to save yourselves, owners? Then kick any ungrateful athlete right out of your beloved sport.

The NFL will require each paid athlete to take courses in ethics, history, and finance. Perhaps they were raised in a well-educated home with plenty of books and excellent teachers at school. Most likely they were not. The courses are going to be non-negotiable and if the athlete is illiterate, tutors will be hired by the NFL to teach him to read. Many of these young, brilliant athletes have been shamefully shuffled through the school system without ever learning the tools they need to be good public citizens. In return for their dedication to their sport, the NFL is going to teach them. If they refuse to take these classes, then to the curb with their duffle bag they will go.

They may save the NFL but they have lost me for good. Aside from my outrage is the discovery that the time wasted, and more importantly the emotional roller coaster and frustration of following a sports team, is a burden lifted from my shoulders. I don’t care anymore and I’m glad.

Then all the untold hours of commercials and announcer-schtick...

The announcer schtick did it for me, long before the current shenanigans. The game became secondary to the blathering of the announcers. I used to say to my wife, "do these buggers get paid by the word?"

I suspect also that many of the officials, players and coaches are on the take. With so much money involved, it’s inevitable that certain people and entities would be willing to pay handsomely to have the games fixed.

The owners may just wise up and cash out; we have two teams here in NJ (Giants, Jets) and I don’t believe either has won a game yet this season. I suspect the owners may be banking what they can while the money is there instead of investing in talent.

Very realistic, since this is exactly what the NFL did do until just a few years ago. It all changed during the Obama Regime.

2. The NFL will require each paid athlete to take courses in ethics, history, and finance.

Yeah, right. The NFL would have to give 60-70% of their players courses in remedial English, reading, and writing first.

3. Athletes will be required to dress professionally off the field and portray themselves as gentlemen.

Oh please. You can't take a bunch of immoral felons and narcissistic thugs, make them millionaires overnight, and expect them to behave as "gentlemen."

Transformation of character takes the power of the Holy Spirit. God can move where He will, but it is a fact that the NFL is hostile to true Christians such as Tim Tebow and Christian practices such as prayer.

I want to watch a cash strapped league cut player and coach pay lower and lower until coaches are depending on side gigs for their daily bread.

I want to watch players have to sell their mansions, high end cars, boats and expensive bling to pay off their debts then get off season jobs like honest people everywhere.
I want to hear their wailing and the lamentations of their gold digging women.

I want to watch the league sell the commissioners private plane, tell him to buy his own health insurance, then watch as he sweats bullets as he waits for the ax to fall.

I want to watch advertisers walk away until the only entities willing to advertise are locals like Bob’s Hardware, Larry’s Used Car Emporium and Huggy Bears Bail Bonds.

I want to watch the number of televised games drop until they are relegated to tape delayed showings on late nights.
I want to watch the NFL package disappear from cable and satellite TV.
I want to watch ESPN slowly strangle on it’s own hubris and lack of viewers until they’re reduced to televising Australian Rules Rugby, Curling and any obscure sporting event they can find until they finally go under.

I want to watch the NFL’s gold egg laying goose die trying to push out one last golden nugget and laugh as the league finds out the goose died and left them with a tiny piece of iron pyrite.

I want to watch as the annual draft goes from being a two day televised extravaganza to a one day event in a smoke filled room that is only reported on obscure and unread blogs.

I want all of this to take TIME as I drink up the tears of the league, owners, coaches and players.
I want to bathe in the Schadenfreude of it all.

All things considered I don’t think I’m asking for too much.

I want cities and states to refuse the league’s extortion. When the team demands a new billion dollar stadium paid by the taxpayers I want the city to say “go to another city then” just like if a professional foosball team threatened to leave.

I lost interest in professional sport when I realized these billion dollar enterprises expected tax payers to build the stadiums.

Professional sports are nothing but entertainment. When they stop being entertaining (like calling your fans racist at every opportunity) well the entertainment value decreases.

I predict that the Olympics will be the next to decline. The networks can not help themselves. There will be five minutes of action and 55 minutes of sob-stories and social justice warrior stories.

As a side note I watched all 21 days of the TOUR DE FRANCE and there was only one short mention of BLM and I have forgotten the context now. So I know they can present sports without indoctrination.
