The GDP report next week will likely show record-breaking economic growth, but it may not help Trump
CNBC ^

Next week, the U.S. will get economic news like it has never seen before, reflecting growth that had seemed impossible, as it is likely that GDP will have risen by about 30% or more.

In the middle of a pandemic. In the middle of a recession. In the middle of 12.5 million unemployed people.

While the incongruity of skyrocketing growth and extreme hardship will be impossible to ignore, it will come at an opportune time for President Donald Trump. The GDP release comes Oct. 29, just five days before the presidential election.

How seriously the country, and its voters, takes the news could influence what happens as the ballots are counted.

“Even though it’s totally meaningless, this is going to give Trump a little lift,” said Steve Blitz, chief U.S. economist at TS Lombard. “He’s going to say, ‘See, I told you, we have a ‘V’ [recovery] and we’re zooming.”

The “zoom,” though, will be in completely relative terms.

Blatantly dishonest reporting. If it does not help Trump, it will be because they will spin it to not help Trump.

Anyone remember the reporting during the obama years? I do. I was laid off and remember hearing the media play up the term "staycation" to make it sound like lounging around the house is equivalent to a vacation. It's all in the mid after all/s

The media is the enemy of this nation.

Excellent summary of as noted blatant dishonesty by the supposed writer.

If this kind of economic report had happened a few weeks out of the 2012 election, the Leftist media would be crowing glowingly about it 24/7 - to help 0bama, of course...

Of course it won’t help Trump, don’t worry about that. Ordinary voters are going to instantly conclude that the economy is skyrocketing because of Obama’s stimulus package back in 2009, 11 years ago. It’s like the famous 11-year sunspot cycle. Obama is the lightworker, right? I remember that goofball Mark Morford who used to write for the SF Chronicle said so. Now he’s a massage and aromatherapist, but hey, follow your bliss.

CNBC continues to find ways to make itself more irrelevant.

This is excellent news, and they try to pass it off as
ho-hum. Idiots...

If this were under Obama, they’d want to crown him
dicater for life.

The unemployment number today is the same as what Obama had in October 2012 and it was regarded as a triumph.

The GDP report next week will likely show record-breaking economic growth, but it may not help Trump, because we won’t let it help Trump.

There, finished the writer’s thought. The only way it doesn’t help Trump is if too many have voted early.

Darn! This means I waited in line almost three hours yesterday to vote for Trump for nothing.

News is filtered through whether it helps Trump rather than whether it helps Americans.

It won’t help Democrats in Democrat-run states and cities.

“In the middle of a recession.”

How do you have 30% GDP *growth* in a recession? CIT

Because he’ll be the first President EVER to not be helped politically by record breaking economic growth. Sheesh!

“Even though it’s totally meaningless, this is going to give Trump a little lift,” said Steve Blitz, chief U.S. economist at TS Lombard.

Totally meaningless, is it? I have a feeling that under a Democrat president, it would be deemed incredibly significant.

My favorite was "Learn to write poetry." That and NYT stories with titles like "Your job has gone away and that's a good thing!"
