Walt Disney Co. DIS 0.58% blasted Californias new protocols for reopening theme parks, saying the strict guidance would significantly complicate the companys efforts to reopen Disneyland.
Disneyland, the companys flagship park, has been shut for seven months because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the longest stretch since it opened 65 years ago.
The states health and human services secretary, Mark Ghaly, on Tuesday announced guidelines that said large theme parks like Disneyland can reopen at limited capacity once nearby community spread of the new coronavirus has been officially deemed minimal.
The announcement followed months of complaints from Disney and other theme-park operators against Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, for not outlining how and when parks might reopen.
In response to the new guidelines, Disneyland Resort President Ken Potrock pointed to the companys record in reopening theme parks in Florida, Asia and Europe, as well as what he called inconsistent standards for different California businesses.
We have proven that we can responsibly reopen, with science-based health and safety protocols strictly enforced at our theme park properties around the world, Mr. Potrock said in a written statement. The State of California continues to ignore this fact, instead mandating arbitrary guidelines that it knows are unworkable and that hold us to a standard vastly different from other reopened businesses.
Californias reopening plan, christened the Blueprint for a Safer Economy, is structured around a four-tier system where counties are permitted to ease restrictions on businesses and public spaces as they meet state-mandated metrics evaluating the spread of the virus that causes Covid-19.
Orange County, where Disneyland is located, has been relegated by state officials for several weeks to the substantial level, failing to advance to moderate spread, which allows for fewer restrictions.

If you’re at your namesake and really in Socal, I can kinda understand the climate phobia you’re showing.
Since it’s California, one is tempted to defend Disney. But one can no longer decide which is the greater collection of putrescence - the CA political vermin-critters, or the Disney perverts.
May they both be there for the Big One.
And not survive.
Its not phobia. Its reality. The weather in both Anaheim and Orlando is more temperate than either of the other two. Anaheim more so but east coasters need to go somewhere.
I’ve been to San Antonio during summer, orland, LA/San Diego, Denver, Vegas, and the rest. The basic thing I learned is that the high temps aren’t all that bad overall. Denver was the worst with the altitude though. For a theme park I’d think Texas or Vegas would be just fine. Better than the nightmare of CA for sure.
Six flags Beas Disney six ways from sundown.
“When you wish upon a DEM...”
Six Flags Over Texas draws three million per year. Disneyland eighteen million. So I guess not many agree with you.
You reap what you sow.
Don’t forget all the businesses, restaurants and other stores around Disneyland not to mention the supply chains.
Disney brought this on themselves by their support of Communists here and in China.
SJW support has laid them low, right as they are cash poor from the FOX buyout.
Doubtful they will survive in the current form without divesting themselves of many assets.
We went from Arizona to Walt Disney World in Florida for a week in August and had an awesome time. The park did an amazing job of keeping visitors safe from the virus. There were hand sanitizer stations about every 30 feet, masks and temperature checks were mandatory, and we practiced social distancing at all times. Our daughter, son-in-law, 2 grandkids, hubby and I were perfectly fine. Newsom is obviously nuts!
Come on DIS. Have a gayday or something. It will be OK.
No sympathy for the Mouse King.
Florida opened up, Governor lifted all restrictions and mask orders but Disney World still insists on “properly worn” face diapers, and don’t you dare walk and drink with your diaper down.
We went for a week in August and had a fabulous time. We stayed in a 1 bedroom villa in Kidani Village with a full size kitchen which saved us a lot of money. The longest line for a ride we had to endure was 30 minutes, and we went on many of the rides twice, and Everest Expedition 3 times because my 5 year old granddaughter loved it! The humidity was brutal but we survived both that and the virus!
I love it when south park roasts Disney and their China relationship! The Mickey mouse is hilarious!
I am betting there isn’t a single person on that board who isn’t a major donating Lib...I have no sadness for Disney...maybe the workers but most also probably vote Lib.
The Devil Mouse
ESPN has been a money loser for Disney the last few years ....and were making up the losses by raising park prices...there done now...I can see it going bankrupt....only thing they have is streaming now...
Keep them closed. Disney/ABC is run by extremist liberals. I hope they lose a ton of money. People should boycott them until they learn we don’t care to hear their opinion on political issues.
My family has been huge Disney theme park fans over the years. Spent 10s of thousands there at both the hotels and parks.
But things started changing. Disney movies were not as wholesome, and actually, in some cases, downright disturbing. The parks and hotels became so PC that you had to walk half a mile to the back of the park to have a smoke.
When they announced recently that all smoking sections were removed from inside the parks and you had to not only leave the park, but go outside the security perimeter to have a smoke, that was it for me. I’ll never go back.
