A sizable share of Americans eschewed the major-party dichotomy and voted for third-party candidates in 2016, helping deliver the White House to President Donald Trump.
But four years later, almost all of the likely voters who opted against both the Republican and Democratic nominees last time around arent planning to do so again, Morning Consult Political Intelligence tracking shows and a slim majority are siding with former Vice President Joe Biden.
Daily tracking of likely voters conducted Oct. 16-18 found 53 percent of likely voters who opted for someone other than a major-party nominee in 2016 said theyre backing Biden in this years election, while 21 percent said theyre supporting Trump. Another 14 percent said they would vote for a third-party candidate again, while 12 percent are still undecided. The data is based on surveys with 359 likely voters who backed someone other than Trump or Clinton in 2016, with a margin of error of 5 percentage points.

No, what happened is that the Democrats strong-armed the Green Party off of the ballot in a lot of states and those Leftist voters are returning to their natural Democrat home.
Numerically it’s still a challenge for Trump, but that’s the reason.
3rd Party voters are not going to lose this for President Trump.
The Libertarian candidate, Jo Jorgensen is Gary Johnson in a skirt, so they’ll vote for her.
The Green Party guy (Howie Hawkins) is a nobody, running an invisible campaign - he isn’t the noisy witch that Jill Stein was.
Nope. I don’t see those voters moving the needle towards Biden.
Ok, that does make a little more sense than my explanation.
Zero chance.

No way libertarians want their taxes increased by Biden—what a joke!
I personally know a Mormon Romneybot who voted for Egg McMuffin in 2016 is voting Biden this time. I tried to talk sense into him but the hate is just too deep.
My son voted for Johnson last time and this time is voting for no one.
Total lies and propaganda—don’t get gaslighted!

I don’t believe that for a moment.
Means nothing,ev show Trump pulling away
“Dont lose hope, people. I personally dont see how anyone who sat out 2016 can vote for Biden.”
These didn’t sit out 2016.
It is highly likely that most Green and Libertarian votes in 2016 are Biden votes in 2020.
Lots of folks had misgivings for Trump in 16. The last 4 years have changed many from opposed/luke warm to strong supporters.
Meanwhile, Trump has lost statistically zero support. He’s incredibly popular within his own party.
All of us, myself included, have seen reports about polls so misleading, for sooo long, we just shrug stuff off like this these days.
No real libertarian would ever vote for a candidate with a former prosecutor on his ticket.
Not me, was 3rd Party in 2016, will vote for him this time. Ditto my sister. Ditto my other sister.
Poll 100% of people who identify as Communist are voting for Joe Biden/Kamala Harris

While I don’t believe the general trend is towards Trump, I am familiar with a couple of people who are voting for Biden, to get rid of Trump. As near as I know, the thinking is that they will get rid of Trump and then work on the Democrat party for 2024.
As if America will really get a chance in 2024 to fix anything.
“Most Voters Who Went Third Party in 2016 Are Backing Biden Over Trump This Year”
right, because everyone knows that biden is a MUCH better candidate than hillary!
obviously, this morningconsult claim is absolute nonsense ...
At least thats better than voting for a racist, corrupt, senile man who has accomplished essentially nothing in his 47 years in National politics AKA Joe
