New Pentagon chief hires adviser who wants quick withdrawal from Afghanistan

New acting Defense Secretary Christopher Miller has hired a senior adviser who has frequently pressed for the quick removal of U.S. troops in Afghanistan, the Defense Department confirmed on Wednesday.

Retired Army Col. Douglas Macgregor “will be serving as a Senior Advisor to the Acting Secretary of Defense. Mr. MacGregor’s decades of military experience will be used to assist in the continued implementation of the President’s national security priorities,” a Pentagon spokesperson told The Hill.

Macgregor, a frequent Fox News guest and Trump’s failed pick for U.S. ambassador to Germany, numerous times in the past year has advocated for the United States to pull its forces from conflicts in the Middle East.

In a January interview with Fox's Tucker Carlson, MacGregor said only Trump would end the war in Afghanistan.

“He’s promised to do that a long time ago and he’s disappointed a lot of us because he hasn’t. He can stand up tomorrow and pull us out. But he needs to send everyone out of the Oval Office who keeps telling him ‘if you do that and something bad happens, it’s going to be blamed on you, Mr. President. He needs to say, ‘I don’t give a damn,’” MacGregor said at the time.

He has also said the United States should remove the U.S. Embassy from Kabul, Afghanistan.

Axios was the first to report on the hire on Wednesday, a move meant to help quickly withdraw U.S. troops from the Middle East before the end of the Trump administration in January, three people familiar with the move told the news outlet.

“That isn’t how the Chinese work. They are all over Africa, and not a shot has been fired.”

No, but the Africans are starting to get tired of them. And shots have been fired. The Chinese do tend to keep heavily armed Chinese guarding their more remote operations. But life is cheap in Africa, black lives matter notwithstanding.

It can’t be quick enough.

I support 100% unilateral withdraw over a period of one week, max. And that would be too long.

Also, from one of the FOBs, you can see ruins from Alexander The Great’s excursion into Afghanistan...

“Afghan mountains are full of them.”

So is the US desert southwest.

We just don’t mine them here like we used to. It’s dirty business.

Yes. When I said that the Chinese did not care, I really mean they Do not care. Alive, dead, whatever. It doesn’t matter to them. Chinese lives ( barely) matter—no others.

The Chicoms are allied with the Taliban regime Al Qaeda ISIS as is Russia too. You risk Russia...you risk China Russia...you risk 9/11 style attacks, on American soil by pulling out.

Sounds like one or more nations have got America between a rock and a hard place.

Perhaps our nation's focus should be getting us out of that position before it becomes too late.

Perhaps making a few announcements to our global neighbors about what is acceptable in terms of nations making hostile moves against or in other nations and then enforcing the issue would suffice.

Of course, with a Biden-Harris admin it is a moot point.

I have a cousin who serves near the DMZ. The real reason why we’re there is to checkmate China, nothing else.

Not to defend Sokor etc. The more we move out, the vacuum simply is filled by the chicoms. I can understand Afghanistan but as some articles pointed out, the more we withdraw, our enemies fill in the gaps until we are surrounded.

“...the Chinese did not care,”

No they don’t and if the BLM types don’t like what they perceive as white people’s attitude towards blacks, they’d be gobsmacked at how the Chinese view them.

I agree. We stopped them in ‘53 and our troops serve a trip wire to keep the ChiComs out.

But Afghanistan is different. Historically it was part of the Great Game between Britain and Russia. For the first half of 20th century it was not considered strategically important except as a buffer between British India and Russia.

When the Soviets invaded in 1979 (how time flies!) we and the Paks encouraged Afghan resistance and 10 years later, the Soviets left. But by this time radical Islam had taken over neighboring Iran. Radical Islam now became a thing and was seen as a threat, not quite as big a threat as communism, but a force to be countered.

So now we have Afghanistan bordered by Iran to the west, Pakistan to the east, and Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan to the north and a very tiny border with China in the northeast. Don’t know which enemy fills in the gap if we leave, and anyone holding Afghanistan doesn’t seem to be in position to ‘surround’ us.

Military Industrial Complex... Daily operations tempo alone costs millions a day considering wear and tear, replacement equipment, and eventually bod, bags and coffins. Literally the biggest technology driver in US and world.

Stand up guy. He tells people what he thinks, President down to common man. But I thought he was acting Ambassador to Germany?

A good article he wrote:

20 Years is long enough. Time to get out.

This is why Trump cleaned house at the Pentagon. Full withdrawal from Afghanistan is no doubt the plan.

Good! Our troops have done a spectacular job in a third world cesspool with less than clear objectives for almost 2 decades!!!! Let that sink in, to anyone who thinks we still need to be there.

The Chinese want their “stuff” and they will pay for it. They couldn’t care less about the Afghan people.

And the folks who are pushing the Biden steal couldn’t care less about the American people. Given that bring our boys/girls home.

Our enemies are here. Our votes become meaningless if our elections are stolen. When the enemy is inside the wire you deal with that threat first.
