Prepare for the Great Decoupling – Deplatforming moves downstream to WordPress.com and Mailchimp
Legal Insurrection ^ | November 16, 2020 | William A. Jacobson

In the past day there have been two very disturbing developments in internet deplatforming.

We are all familiar with deplatforming from major social media services such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as those platforms outright silencing important news that harms Democrats, like the Biden family influence peddling scandal. Twitter regularly now places notices or restrictions even on Trump’s tweet on the allegation that his opinions on the election are disputed. In the four years Trump as been the subject of dishonest and malicious conspiracy claims, particularly Russia collusion, I can’t remember Twitter ever placing such restrictions on the tweets from Adam Schiff, other Democrat politicians, or mainstream media outlets peddling that disinformation.

The two recent developments take it to a new level.

First, The Conservative Treehouse website says it received notification from WordPress.com that “… given the incompatibility between your site’s content and our terms, you need to find a new hosting provider and must migrate the site by Wednesday, December 2nd.”

True, and one thing I always try to do is keep my stuff portable - no using AWS/GCP/Azure proprietary stuff (lambdas, etc), so I can jump to a new platform provider if needed (containers are a big help here).

S3 is one exception, as you say, because it’s so dang useful. The good thing there is there are plenty of S3-compatible solutions out there (Digital Ocean’s spaces, minio, etc). I’ve used both and they’re (mostly) a drop-in replacement.

“FR is software/platform independent. It only requires a pipe.”

Glad to hear that. I wondered out loud about that in an earlier post.

Self-platforming might keep you a step ahead of this move, but if they want to shut us off selectively, they can shut us off selectively.

Salesforce put $300M into Automattic, just a couple of months ago, when Auomattic also acquired Tumblr. So the Big Tech/Intel Swamp moves fast. TCT was hosted by Automattic, which makes them especially easy prey, but the WordPress CMS is used by more than a third of all the websites in the world. That is very likely what they are eyeing next.

Hmmm.... perhaps there may be a market for a conservative-friendly blogging platform (Medium-esque).

I agree.

I’ve noticed this and it is disconcerting.

Wordpress is also a system you can install on your own server.

But that requires money and a modicum of learning.

Wish it was that easy to decouple from the blue states.

As it gets worse, then platforms equivalent to the Gabs and Parlers of today will have their day, no doubt.

But underlying hosts (e.g., Amazon) and telecom providers, as well now it seems CMS providers, will apparently ultimately trump them as choke points.

This will get worse...... Conservatism is the one remaining threat to the deep state.

This was the plan all along when instigating “hate” laws and hate speech verbage.
