Self-platforming ones self is being very self-sufficient.

That is a VERY American personal/organizational trait, now DUmped upon by the Left along with DUmping on the rest of Western Civ.

This is the problem with moving everything to the cloud, you lose control of your operations.

Running a server (DNS, HTTPS etc) is forbidden with most personal internet services.

Yeah, I can throw up a Self-hosted site easy. Limitations on bandwidth is the issue.

Even hosting services like GoDaddy and others get very expensive with any real traffic. One client had me host a MySQL DB for a game, as well as the game website for a mobile game. Thousands per month.

One word. Expensive. And no Freepathons every quarter to pay for hosting.

Self-platforming might keep you a step ahead of this move, but if they want to shut us off selectively, they can shut us off selectively.

Salesforce put $300M into Automattic, just a couple of months ago, when Auomattic also acquired Tumblr. So the Big Tech/Intel Swamp moves fast. TCT was hosted by Automattic, which makes them especially easy prey, but the WordPress CMS is used by more than a third of all the websites in the world. That is very likely what they are eyeing next.
