Oregon’s US attorney says Capitol insurrectionists from state will be prosecuted

Oregon U.S. Attorney Billy Williams on Thursday said Oregonians who traveled to Washington, D.C., and participated in this week’s armed insurrection at the U.S. Capitol would be prosecuted to the “fullest extent of the law” in Oregon.

I am no lawyer but my understanding of the law is that he is full of it.

If any Oregon citizen committed a crime in DC, the DC cops must first have enough probably cause to get a warrant.

Then they attempt to get the person extradited to DC.

He/she is then tried and sentenced and pays a fine or serves time in a DC jail.

If they think that’s an “armed insurrection,” they better thank the Almighty it wasn’t really an armed insurrection.

If people truly went their with bad intentions, it would have been much more bloody than one protestor shot. They’d still be trying to clear DC of armed insurrectionist, if they were there.

This is the U.S> Attorney, not a local prosecutor. He can prosecute anyone from Oregon who traveled in interstate commerce for purposes of rioting (the so-called "H. Rap Brown Act," enacted under the Nixon Administration).
