Statehood for P.R. would be the biggest political mistake of the Century...The DEms will do anything to get a liberal vote. This is one the USA doesn’t want.

They are not scared of anything. If Schumer didn’t want this and if PR didn’t want it, the House wouldn’t have introduced it.

Turnout was over 54% of the electorate. The 2017 one that was boycotted had 23% turnout.

Over 50% turnout would be a legitimate referendum. If Dems had the votes in Congress, they'd say it was enough to show Puerto Rico supports statehood and make them a state, but they don't have those votes, so it's moot.

Washington, DC residents have already voted a few years ago on a draft Constitution, 70% approval. Has a DC bill been entered yet? The PR votes are much more subject to interpretation.

and it’s an irrefutable argument, so give it up.

Based on the "fact" that there was no vote fraud, right?

Doesn’t statehood have to be approved by the states, or can it be done unilaterally by Congress?

Article IV, Section 3, Clause 1 gives Congress authority to admit new States. It does not require Congress receive consent from the territory to be admitted. The only express limitations on Congress's statehood power involve the borders of already admitted States.

Based on the fact that it was unproven, and, given the retarded arguments pursued by wood and powell, unprovable.

and spare me the foot stomping temper tantrum about the entire federal judiciary and the state courts in 6 states all being in on the conspiracy.

It’s just ridiculous.

Unlike Washington, DC which has over 700,000 people, more than Vermont and Wyoming, Guam has fewer than 100,000 and might not qualify on population count alone. PR has over 3 million.

They never proved Al Capone was a mobster either.

I fully agree with Puerto Rican statehood, but I do not agree in any way with stomping on what the founding fathers intended by making Washington DC a state. It was intended that the nation’s capitol would be kept solvent and not given state status, and I think it should stay that way.

DC can’t be made into a state. The Founders were pretty clear about that, and when they did the dog and pony last year, they even tried to limit the definition of DC to just include the WH, Mall, Capitol Hill, and SCOTUS, but as I understood it, the actual territory of DC is outlined and cannot be changed without amending the Constitution.
