NFL Doubles Down on Social Justice Support Ahead of Chauvin Verdict

Memo sent by Commissioner Roger Goodell to league employees and obtained by Pro Football Talk:

We wanted to make sure you are aware of resources the league offers to employees through our Employee Assistance Program. The trauma, emotion and anger that follows violence is difficult to bear. Please know that the NFL stands committed to using our platform to foster these conversations and to put in the work necessary to fight for social justice and to prevent these situations from happening over and over again.

NFL players are leading this work, and the league and clubs will continue to join them in helping to establish trust between communities of color and law enforcement and prioritizing new approaches to training, de-escalation and community engagement with police officers. The NFL and Players Coalition are supporting a number of organizations working tirelessly and specifically in this area: The Center for Policing Equity , The Council on Criminal Justice , Metro Family Services, and The Vera Institute of Justice. These organizations have gone to great lengths to reimagining what policing in America looks like and that work is sparking change across the country.

The memo lists a variety of initiatives the NFL is working on in the realm of social justice, such as “the Council on Criminal Justice and its Task Force on Policing released a new set of research-based reports and called for the U.S. Department of Justice to dramatically expand its capacity to investigate police misconduct and propose and enforce reforms.”

The league has remained firmly in support of the social justice movement since June of last year when Goodell released a video message saying the league was “wrong” for not listening to the players after Colin Kaepernick began his anthem protests in 2016. Goodell also said, “Black Lives Matter.”

The obscene amount of $$$$ they make for kicking and chasing a funny looking ball up and down a field, they can’t afford to pay for their own couchtime?

I use to be a fanatical NFL fan, ever week I would place fun bets with relatives, or watch a game with my dad on a Sunday. The MILLI-second I saw that utter d-bag Colon Kaepernick kneel during the National anthem and nothing was done about it was the same milli-second I stopped watching absolute cold, not even the super bowl. That was back in 2016 I believe, and I haven’t watched a single game since nor will I ever. Roger Goodell forever destroyed the NFL when he sanctioned the bashing of our military and law enforcement heroes, to hell with anything related to the NFL, in my house it is utterly verbotten, the NFL is considered extremely offensive material. Oh and another thing, if I am invited into someones house and they have an NFL game on, I will not enter the house until it is shut off. I’m serious, people think I’m joking but I am not. That whole organization is an offense to everything I stand for

Why would I watch a bunch of American hating thugs play football and insult me? I’m no masochist.

...establish trust between communities of color and law enforcement...

So the NFL is encouraging felons "of color" to stop resisting arrest?

Goodell is such a coward that if someone says boo, he will kiss their ass without asking any questions. Just like his coward father, Sen. Goodell. No wonder the Soviets were interested in establishing covert contacts with him and/or his staff. See: Edward Kennedy section at www.keywiki.org for the FBI document about this (1970).

I’m sorry, there is no way on God’s green earth that this verdict will affect any one of them. They could give a rats a$$ about Floyd or Chauvin.

The NFL no longer cares what it’s fans think.

Many have, as the ratings show. And why conservatives (except Trump) don't step in front of the decline and take a bow is indicative of how truly useless the conservative movement has become. Same goes for the NBA, MLB, CNN, MSNBC, magazines and the cinema. All have ratings that are in the dumper and conservative leaders are no where to be found, yet it's us who have walked away.
