The worst chlorine shortage the country has ever seen is set to rock this summer’s pool season.
“It’s been a concern for us,” said Cody Saliture, owner of Texas Pool Professionals, which has been in business for 17 years.
The Rockwall, Texas-based company services 200 clients weekly, and Saliture said he recently began to stockpile chlorine tablets. He’s also been looking for different chemicals to keep pools sanitized and his customers happy.
“We’re looking for anything that we can get that we don’t have here in North Texas,” Saliture said. “We’ve been to about six states and 15 cities [for supplies].”
The chlorine shortage is widespread and it will likely worsen — driving chlorine prices even higher — as homeowners start to prep swimming pools for the season. CNBC spoke to pool industry insiders in multiple states — including Florida, Michigan, Nevada and Texas — about the tight supplies, which are expected to blindside pool owners, who are largely unaware of the problem.

Not me. Availability is not my problem. Also, considering the last year it’s more than likely most of those pool owners don’t have the cash ready to dump $3,000 into a proper system. This is going to be a problem for folks hit hardest by the idiocy of the last year, inflation and now access to basic maintenance materials. it’s not just chlorine, it’s everything.

Just checked. Did not have fabric or color that I wanted. Did not have button down collars. Did not have pleat in the back. Did not have a fruit loop. What is so damn hard about a decent button down oxford shirt?
You need to look in the custom section. They have all that you’re looking for.
I did, and like I wrote, they did not have what I was seeking. I desire a classic button down oxford cloth shirt. That means the collar buttons down. Not the misused term of today where button down means it has buttons down the front. They have no option for that. There is no option for the back of the shirt. There is no option for a locker hook, fruit loop, or whatever you want to call it. Even when I put in oxford cloth as the fabric, they do not have the colors I want.
Select the ‘Custom’ tab on the main page, then ‘Custom Shirts’. Once you’re there select ‘oxford’ in the fabric weave options. Then choose the rest of the construction details — collar style including button down, rear pleat style including center box pleat with or without locker loop, placket style/width, cuff styles, pocket styles, button materials and stitching, etc. And of course you can specify the measurements. In the advanced options you can choose things like the amount of shoulder slope.

Pools are one thing but many sewer plants use chlorine to disinfect the outflow waters. Major health problem if not chlorinated or treated with UV systems.
Shortages will also include all chicken and pork. Beef will be unavailable thanks to Biden’s environmental BS. Get the Soylent Green scoop trucks ready.

Does the salt (chlorine) generator separate chlorine from salt (NaCl), or does salt water not need chlorine? I assume the former, enlighten me.
Extra credit question: what happens to the sodium if the generator uses NaCl?

Yes, the salt cell breaks apart the sodium and chlorine. However, you still need add chlorine shock occasionally, depending on weather conditions. I have to shock mine at least once a month during the middle of summer and twice a month in spring and fall. Rain can create algae pretty quickly.
The sodium builds up in the water and you have to add acid to keep the alkalinity down. This creates... salt, and the process starts over.
I have had a hard time finding chlorine shock for the last month. Even the pool supply companies are out.
So, in chlorine generator, the sodium from the NaCl is released into the water & reacts with the water, forming NaOH & hydrogen. Then you have to add acid to counteract the sodium hydroxide.
Hmm, if you add HCl as the acid, you get water + salt (NaCl). You would never need to add salt with this scheme, just HCl (hydrochloric acid).
