How Trump can win again: Become the calm, moderate candidate (good piece!)
thehill.com ^ | 7/16/21 | Conrad Black

Posted on 07/16/2021 7:19:16 AM PDT by cotton1706

The political scene is evolving so quickly that I presume to offer some advice to President Trump: He can now win in 2024 by being the potential candidate of calm and moderation.

The Democrats have become a Babel of contending extremists, suddenly and implausibly blaming the Republicans for defunding police forces and miraculously discovering the virtues of voter identification, after having denounced it for six months as the resurrection of Jim Crow. The utter moral bankruptcy of many elected Democrats was captured in the Texas state legislators fleeing the state in private planes, excitedly taking selfies of themselves unmasked and grinning, to avoid being compelled by law to make a quorum in the state legislature and pass judgment on a voting reform measure.

Things are not altogether more settled on the other side, however. There are a number of prominent Republicans who are clearly qualified to be president, including Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and former Vice President Mike Pence. Yet Trump effortlessly prevailed over both of them and every other listed contender in a recent CPAC poll of potential candidates for president in 2024. The uncharacteristically incautious comments of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) that, in effect, the dreadful Trump specter had passed and they could all go back to being the good-natured losers of the Bush-McCain-Romney eras was effectively retracted within a few days. Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) has disgraced herself by joining the Trump-hate operation of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and, in Republican terms, is sinking without a ripple as a consequence.

Meanwhile, with the political left’s Supreme Court-packing threat appearing to fade, the court’s justices have blown away the Democrats’ plan to assure their own permanent incumbency through unverifiable ballot-harvesting.

Before it is over, Bert it will be literally. It has been that way since the beginning of time.

Speaking of hilling, all these hypotheticals are a waste of time.

The left, the system, the deep state, the ruling class, whatever you want to call them, will literally murder Donald Trump before he is allowed back into the White House.

I watched the Anti Obama care prayer threads and then witnessed Roberts gin up an excuse to keep it alive.

God did not heed the prayer made in sincere earnest

“If that’s what you get from reading Conrad Black ...”

I didn’t get that from Conrad Black. Three point five years is way out there.

That is my prediction for 2024 despite everything going Trump's way. I think he has a ceiling for the reasons you've just mentioned.

Yes this is Conrad Black and he is very insightful.

From his comments what I consider to be the money quote: “But the increasing concern about the human wave of illegal immigration across the southern border, about sharply rising rates of violent crime and inflation, will soon attract the interest of even the most slavishly anti-Trump media, however tepidly.”

Let Biden and his pack of fools be the issue. President Trump should engage as ‘the loyal opposition’. Don’t give the lying press an opportunity to make Trump the issue which only gives relief to Biden and his fools.

Anytime (read helping candidates in 2022 or for a run in 2024) President Trump can always dial up how he engages with the public and counters the BS of the media. Just my 2¢.

So your faith gets destroyed because God’s answer was “no”. God is not anyone’s personal cornucopia, particularly not for sinners; that is not how it works. One theme that goes throughout the Bible is patience; read the book of Job again.

So Trump needs to be a phony to be elected? That makes him just another phony politician.

Why does an “extremely intelligent man” spew the same socialistic stuff as US-born never-Trumpers?

Trump pardoned the man when he was railroaded by the U.S. legal system. You didn't try very hard to find writings of his against Trudeau, they just don't get as much play here.

Events will tell the tale in 2022 and 2024. Things are spinning out of control fast. By 2024 we will need a bombastic General Patton, not a cool headed General Marshal. We will need a US Grant to lead America—not a political McClellan. So many things can happen that it makes my head spin. Did Trump make mistakes, Hell Yes. He was an armature in politics and was doomed to make them—but did he do a good job—YES. Biggest Mistake trusting the wrong people. Best thing he did was expose the corruption that exists. But, the propaganda of the Progs worked and many today still think he’s a Russian Agent and a rising Hitler. BUT events are coming that will spell the end of things as we know them. I have no idea what the future holds but—It doesn’t look good.

Seems almost congratulatory of Trudeau, who is not a “weak leader” although he’s a hypocrite—and a racist. I was speaking of C-10 specifically, which I can’t find anything about by Black.

So why has Black turned on Trump, and by sounding like the Uniparty that offered him no legal help?

He only lost because the American People allows corrupt individuals to choose their leaders for decades. The republicans are the ones that refused to fight. The typical voter is a coward (same with me, I did nothing), they tolerated cheating and subpar leaders for decades (no thinking person thinks any state or federal election has been fair and honest).

Trump had the intelligence community, republicans, governors, secretary of states, and even his own Vice President betray him, news and social media censoring and distortions, and even his DOJ turn their back / hinder voter fraud investigations (Barr telling PA not to investigate).

But you’re right Trump refused to fight? </sarcasm off>

He couldn’t fight, he was isolated and alone. The most powerful people in government and the country wanted him out. And voters be damned!

I think you are in denial about the damage that President Trump sometimes caused himself. On more than one occasion good news for the administration in the morning had been overshadowed by a controversial Trump comment or tweet by the evening news cycle. More than once I wondered what the heck he was thinking when instead of taking a victory lap, he instead lashed out at someone or brought up some totally different issue. Good news in politics must be managed and cultivated so as to get the most mileage out of it. President Trump just never seemed to get that concept. I don’t know if he was not focused on those occasions but he wasted many good opportunities. Yes the media was totally against him, we all know that but some days he also worked against himself. He is a good businessman and was a good President policy wise but too many times he was not very savvy in managing the public perception of him. We will all vote for him given the chance but he needs more than just us to buy into the program.
