American Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a CNN interview on Sunday that the administration of President Joe Biden “can work with and recognize” a Taliban government in Afghanistan that respects women and “doesn’t harbor terrorists.”
The Taliban, the jihadist organization that ruled Afghanistan prior to the U.S. invasion of that country in 2001, completed its takeover of the country on Sunday, surrounding Kabul and negotiating the departure of the previous Afghan government. Ex-President Ashraf Ghani reportedly fled Sunday after delivering a bizarre televised speech in which he claimed to be working to regroup the Afghan military to fight the Taliban. Thousands of Afghan troops had deserted and fled into neighboring countries at the time of his claim.

30K troops were sent in to fight people that have been at war for thousands of years? Wars like this are won using brainwashed troops and our equipment we leave behind. They have done this for centuries.
In a white (grey) house briefing ragtime Joe said two things:
“I want to be clear: The U.S. military mission in Afghanistan continues through the end of August. We remain — we retain personnel and capacities in the country, and we maintain some authority — excuse me, the same authority under which we’ve been operating for some time.”
“Together, with our NATO Allies and partners, we have trained and equipped over three hu- — nearly 300,000 current serving members of the military — of the Afghan National Security Force, and many beyond that who are no longer serving. Add to that, hundreds of thousands more Afghan National Defense and Security Forces trained over the last two decades.”
In the span of a couple of weeks, all those trained people we spent trillions working up have been hammered into subservience. And the people we left to “finish” the job are now being told to hide to keep from being murdered.
The Taliban broke their promises, same O, same O. And we achieved nothing except loss of lives as they are back in, at least 15 provinces have Al Qaeda in them, and more Americans are going to be killed.
Joe, don’t you think it’s time to make a call on what to do rather than bail on the citizens you left in there to be, apparently, collateral damage. You wanted this job, so do it instead of hiding at Camp David. You and your people use the term, improperly, “no child left behind,” by just passing them into unprepared failure.
Are you now applying that ill thought unplanned theology to all Americans? The only difference with your historical actions on the middle east is going from Bush had no exit strategy, to neither do we have one now. Leaving citizens in harms way telling them to duck is not a strategy, it’s stupidity.

Well, who was Trump planning on working with following his planned withdrawal? From what I have read the agreement left out the sitting Afghan president/government.
I do think a withdrawal under Trump would have been far less chaotic and fewer lives lost. But I honestly don’t know if it would have prevented the Taliban taking over. How would Trump approach that without getting us back in that hell-hole yet not lose any strategic Middle-East advantage?
P.S. Maybe the Taliban will work with Biden if he upholds the basic rights of his people.
