The situation at Kabul international airport is "tenuous", and US officials are considering evacuating all Americans and leaving Afghans behind, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.
The decision to abandon Afghan allies has not yet been made, said CBS National Security Correspondent David Martin, but it is "on the table" and will be explored if American troops cannot take control of the airport.

I’m not a military expert but it would seem our troops are under siege around the airport...then as you say a well place mortar or SAM that destroyed a plane or two would close the airport, creating a potential Stalingrad situation....

And here’s the thing. The Taliban is not a modern force with a central command structure. It’s just a collection of barbarian tribes. So I’m really surprised that some guy hasn’t decided to take a shot just for the hell of it.
