U.S. Leaving Behind 75,000 Vehicles, 600,000 Weapons, 208 Aircraft In Afghanistan, Watchdog Says

A government watchdog group says the U.S. military is leaving behind 75,000 vehicles, 600,000 weapons and 208 aircraft in Afghanistan as forces evacuate the country after a 20-year war.

We’ve made the Taliban into a major U.S. arms dealer for the next decade,” said Adam Andrzejewski, CEO of Open the Books. “They now control 75,000 military vehicles. This is about 50,000 tactical vehicles, 20,000 Humvees they control about 1,000 mine-resistant vehicles, and even about 150 armored personnel carriers.”

“We built them a pretty amazing war chest and now all of it is in the hands of the Taliban,” said Andrzejewski. “We know that last month, as late as July, seven new helicopters were being delivered in the capital city of Kabul.”

[snip]

“We found a Federal Audit that detailed up to $200 million worth of drones that had disappeared,” Andrzejewski said. “We don’t know where 600,000 weapons are within the country.”

The left-behind equipment and weapons are worth billions.

The Hill reported that “between 2003 and 2016, the United States transferred 75,898 vehicles, 599,690 weapons, 162,643 pieces of communications equipment, 208 aircraft, and 16,191 pieces of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment to Afghan forces, according to a 2017 Government Accountability Office report. From 2017 to 2019, the United States also gave Afghan forces 7,035 machine guns, 4,702 Humvees, 20,040 hand grenades, 2,520 bombs and 1,394 grenade launchers, among other equipment, according to a report last year from the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR).”

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said Tuesday that the equipment is lost to the Taliban, “and obviously, we don’t have a sense that they are going to readily hand it over to us at the airport.”

If we had a strong military we built up in Afghanistan, we could've left that equipment and munitions with them to fight with. But realistically, we should have moved all of that equipment back to a rear theater somewhere because we could always guaranty using it again.

Absent that, we should have booby trapped all of the important and critical armaments and equipment to blow up after(or before) we left.

But to just leave it for the Taliban (and in turn for ISIS) because we were in a hurry to meet some artificial calendar deadline, is the height of stupidity.

So stupid in fact, that it makes you wonder whether the military industrial complex didn't want it that way so they could provide all new equipment in the next war.

After all, that's how the ball bounces.

What more is it going to take before we throw out biden.

Maybe a nuke going off in fly over country, and I think even that wouldn’t get rid of the bastard.

I detect your sarcasm coming on strong.

The further our military gets away from fighting wars and more into nation building the worse we do.

Our military needs to focus on training to kill our enemies and less on how to treat women.

Our political leaders have gotten our military leaders too far into doing the wrong things.

Going forward, we need our military trained to take out the enemy and less on good housekeeping in the kitchen.

I'm just sayin'....

I wouldn’t want to be on the last US evac aircraft - after we left them so many weapons.

An exquisite irony here is that our Government doesn’t even blink at the prospect of leaving billions of dollars worth of deadly weapons, paid for by our taxes, in the hands of terrorists who may yet use them against our military and/our own citizens. And yet this same Government wants to ban 9mm pistols for its own citizens.

I brought this question up over lunch:

So HOW MUCH does a pound of C4 cost?

That there was NO ATTEMPT to disable or destroy this materiel is telling.

As well, I haven’t seen a single mention of a ‘commission’ to investigate this disastrous fiasco...

“Too hard to move all that large equipment”

So, the geniuses can only move things one way. Got it.

600,000 small arms for 2500 troops? That’s only 240 weapons per soldier.
Hell I think a more appropriate ratio would be 300 to one.

Why leave it?

too hard to move it.

Watch how fast they confiscate the weaponry of American citizens.

I cry BS.

And yet this same Government wants to ban 9mm pistols for its own citizens.

That’s to keep them safe, when they come to kill you, or throw you into a COVID quarantine camp.

Heck, many of our stupid commanders disarmed locals. Plenty of movies about that.

Gov comes in for its own security and then goes awol.

Should be a big lesson , but nah

Based on the numbers, it sure looks like the Pentagon was arming more than the Afghan National Army, or whatever it was called. Over what span of time was this equipment delivered there - anyone have any info on that?

isn’t it great that our woke military has so much money and equipment that they can leave behind or lose enough weapons to outfit an entire country?

How many people will be killed by the stockpile of what Biden ‘left behind’.
