Group opposing indoor vaccine mandate storms food court on Staten Island

A group opposed to New York City’s vaccine requirement for restaurants and other indoor activities stormed a Staten Island food court over the weekend — refusing to show proof-of-inoculation before sitting down to eat.

Video posted on YouTube and Twitter by freelance reporter Oliya Scootercaster shows the group of about 20 people march through the Staten Island Mall into its food court Saturday and sit down to eat, chanting slogans such as “USA!” and “F–k Joe Biden!”...

The city’s vaccine mandate requires New Yorkers who want to dine inside restaurants and malls, work out at a gym or attend an indoor concert to show proof they’ve gotten at least one of their shots.

People aren’t required to show proof of vaccination or wear masks to enter malls. But they have to show documentation that they’ve been immunized to get into the malls’ food courts.

The demonstrators appear to be allowed to eat in the food court without incident, according to the video — and lead the crowd of fellow diners in chants of “My body, my choice!” “USA! USA!” and the Pledge of Allegiance.

“No mandate!” one woman says to the camera. “We’re not against the vaccine, we’re against the mandate!”...

Staten Island is a nice suburb of Brooklyn.

It’s about damn time people stand up to these ridiculous, discrimination tactics. Good for them, we need more of this.

As I said, my apologies if I offended anyone.

I am not an authoritarian any more than you are.

I have been obese. Perhaps that’s where I got personal. Do understand that you and I are not that far apart.

However, HAD I read my comment, not being me, I would not have responded like you have. So maybe we are too far apart.

Kudos to these folks on Staten Island, one of the 5 boroughs in New York City.

Since governors (and Mayor Kaiser Wilhelm Deblasio) joined protesters rioters during the Wuhanic Plague in defiance of their own COVID diktats, EVERY place that tries to restrict access needs to be protested.

There is no room to tolerate "Rules for Thee but not for Me".

Korporations, no matter what size or industry, that support Pfascism need to be called out as the Pfascists they are.

Hey, DP! This is a Staten Island article and you haven’t chimed in yet! Looks like you’ve been away from FR about a month. Everything ok?

This may really get interesting if the powers that be decide to Jan. 6th these “perps” and fine or lock them up forever…

Wonder about him as well.

Seemed like a good fellow.

We’re going to need larger and more gulags for all these political prisoners, comrades.

Noticing that someone is obese is not offensive to me.

It might even be reasonable to point out that buffets are not especially healthy and even more so for those who are already obese.

But the idea of dictating what another human should eat or not eat is getting pretty close to the kind of overreach our current government seems to be eagerly embracing.

Shame tends to reinforce addictive behaviors such as overeating. Treating people with unconditional positive regard often helps addicts to find recovery.

Yes, I agree with you on this. My mother shamed mine and my sister’s weight (and a few other habits Mother found disgusting). And my sister and I have addictive behaviors

Understood.
