I agree. I skimmed the article and they made a few good points, but some were reaches. For example, they talked about increased purchases of vegetable seeds, suggesting that people are living off the land in large numbers. Raising enough vegetables to support yourself requires quite a bit of land, and is virtually off limits to apartment dwellers, condo dwellers, and even owners of many single-family homes in urban or suburban areas. My perception is that urban gardening is kind of a middle-class hobby, not something done for basic sustenance.

What they didn’t mention was…..what percentage went to college let alone grad school in 1949? What percentage spend years beyond 16 going to school now?

That will put quite a dent in the labor participation rate.

There are also a lot of 65+ who won’t stop working. They just do it slower.
