in a secret recording, a Texas school administrator advised teachers to have an "opposing" book regarding the Holocaust – also known as the genocide of millions of European Jews during World War II.
The school leader works with the Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, near Dallas-Forth Worth. According to audio obtained by NBC News, Gina Peddy, the Carroll school district's executive director of curriculum and instruction, made the comment during a training session on which books teachers can have in classroom libraries.
Carroll ISD held the training camp to respond to a parent's complaint of how the board reprimand a fourth-grade teacher who had kept an anti-racism book in her classroom. A Carroll staff member secretly recorded the training and shared the audio with NBC News.
In the recording, Peddy told the teachers to remember the concept of House Bill 3979, which is a new Texas law that requires teachers to present multiple perspectives when discussing "widely debated and currently controversial" issues.
"Make sure that if you have a book on the Holocaust, that you have one that has an opposing, that has other perspectives," Peddy said,

I can't imagine what Peddy was thinking of when that person said "opposing, that has other perspectives......what other perspectives to this horror?
"The major camps were in German-occupied Poland and included Auschwitz, Belzec, Chelmno, Majdanek, Sobibor, and Treblinka. At its peak, the Auschwitz complex, the most notorious of the sites, housed 100,000 persons at its death camp (Auschwitz II, or Birkenau)".
What about climate change? Is it “widely debated and currently controversial”? Or settled science? Open, honest debate is sorely lacking these days....
Show the movie The Nuremburg Troals, with Richard Widmark.
Show the movie, The Stranger, with Orrson Welles.
I’m curious what the other perspective is as well. Reasons why the Holocaust was justified or understandable? Gina, there was no justification, as the Nuremberg Trials confirmed. In case you hadn’t noticed, they are still to this day trying old Nazis for war crimes and crimes against humanity when they can make a case.
The other perspective could include “the Jews had it coming to them.”
Will “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and “Mein Kampf” be on the reading list?
Maybe they could consult the curricula that Hamas has instituted in the Gaza Strip, or the Iranians for that matter.
What 3rd world shitbox is this “teacher” from I wonder.
There is no denying it happened. The Nazis were fully committed to wiping the Jews off the planet. They said from the start what they meant to do and did it. The SS kept meticulous records of everything they did and it was used as evidence against them at Nuremberg. The Denier's know this. "Mein Kampf'' is widely published through out the Arab Muslim world. The Muslims have been killing Israeli's for decades. The Nazis were and are their soul mates. As to Mein Kampf'' I tried reading that it once. Good God what an incomprehensible, incoherent, turgid pile piece of bs that thing is. I could only stomach a few chapters. I couldn't make any sense of it.
Volume One of Mein Kampf relates how he came to his political "enlightenment", and it is in Volume Two that he relates his intentions, some of the darkest sentiments ever put into print. It was some time in 1921 that his anti-Semitism changed from what was fairly commonplace in Europe at the time into something unbelievably malignant. No one is really sure why that happened.
So I'm sort of ambivalent here - this stuff is vital to understanding why what happened, happened, but it certainly isn't undergraduate-level reading and definitely not for students with only a vague idea of what World War II was about. Thanks for your comments and best to you.
Thank you, you too.
Assuming you mean "Judgement at Nuremburg" that had nothing to do with the Holocaust. It involved other crimes against humanity.
Texas.
Both the Spencer Tracy movie and the Orson Welles movie had films of the camps in them.
There are thousands of feet of film that just might convince even the hardest of deniers that the very worst crimes against humanity did happen.
Show the captured German films from the camps: executions, medical experiments, daily life, etc. Show the Allied films taken in the liberated camps. Show the interviews with survivors of the camps. Hollywood crap pales in the light of the actual records.
It actually centers upon the Treaty of Versailles. The Germans were forced into poverty and hopelessness. Hitler gave them hope and a scapegoat.

“On Thursday, Carroll ISD posted a response on its Facebook page clarifying Peddy’s remarks. “The comments made were in no way to convey that the Holocaust was anything less than a terrible event in history,” Superintendent Lane Ledbetter said in the statement. “Additionally, we recognize there are not two sides of the Holocaust. As we continue to work through implementation of HB3979, we also understand this bill does not require an opposing viewpoint on historical facts.”
They’re trying to figure out how to deal with a poorly written bill. Confusion is to be expected.
There was no confusion. There was lying. Outright lying.
