I’ve never seen a Balsam tree.

We have a 60 year old Hachiya persimmon tree at my dad’s house. It seldom missed bearing fruit except the past few years.

It has some kind of disease that has killed part of the tree. I cut the diseased portion back leaving a 2 ft trunk which put out new growth. Now another portion of the tree is dying. It does have fruit this year, on the new growth portion.

Hachiya persimmon is a seedless tree and is described as a Japanese Persimmon.

I normally peal and dry 200 of the persimmons per year. Did not have fruit last year. I love to eat them fresh, but they all get ripe soon after 1st frost so they don’t last long.

Your father's tree needs to revive. It made it 60 years already, so I hope your pruning will cause it to thrive and fruit abundantly once again.

I like how in Japan they are grown into square shapes. That might be the Fuyu variety.

Daffy:

See, another allusion to Mars by way of Japan. Only this time it's a rising persimmon instead of a red sun, but what perfect timing with the fall ripenings and harvest.

This biblical persimmon plant is not related to the orange persimmon fruit of today.

That's because persimmon is hard to come by:

"It's easier to ask forgiveness than it is to get permission". ~ ADM Grace Hopper

“This is the same persimmon that is identified with the biblical persimmon. It is the persimmon that served as the first of the incense ingredients of the Temple and as the anointing oil of the kings and priests,” Ehrlich explained.

See what I mean? Secrets of the universe. Mum's the word. ;)

Today is the front door "reveal" (Mars = ALT+11). Still got some of those orange "Mars" impatiens cheerfully blooming by the door, having oddly reseeded in the crushed stone from last year's flower pots.

Who's in charge of all this weird, seemingly coincidental stuff? It ain't rocket science!
