Crime weary San Franciscans to vote on recall of DA Chesa Boudin

SAN FRANCISCO — Elections officials announced Tuesday that a recall election against San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin will appear on the ballot in June, giving residents of the politically liberal city a chance to keep or oust a polarizing figure and former public defender who has been a prosecutor for less than two years.

Critics say Boudin, 41, has failed to prosecute repeat offenders, allowing them to commit more crimes that have contributed to the deterioration of the city's quality of life. His supporters say his progressive policies of ending mass incarceration and promoting restorative justice are what San Francisco wants and that he's being blamed unfairly for problems that have vexed the city for years.

Liberals burn everything they touch to the ground. It is beyond incompetence. It is willful.

Walking in and out of a store every day taking $950 in merchandise and just smiling that it was so easy. Chesa and his type need to go.

Even before the COVID-1984 lockdowns, these cities were desperately short of assistant prosecutors and staff. The $950 change to the law was a consequence of the city calling in consultants to figure out how many cases they could remove from the dockets. Shoplifting was viewed as appearing the least apathetic by city administration and the city lawyers knew it would have the fewest lawsuits against the city for neglect (as compared to releasing rapists and murderers).

City officials don't care that their change to the law forces the victims to pay higher prices and the officials fully expect shoppers in other areas to subsidize the stores' losses in San Francisco. The officials also don't care if the stores close; the tax revenue isn't going to help the bankrupt city enough anyway.

Blue cities, especially in blue states, are broke and cannot afford to hire assistant prosecutors and staff to process these charges, much less afford to incarcerate prisoners. Any replacement for Boudin will do the same as he did. It's an inevitable step in the decline of a bankrupt city.

He’s even more extreme than the lunatic before him who migrated to LA and screwing things up there and is considered appalling even by LA leftwing standards. So I’m not sure what changed as they’ve been on this path for quite awhile now and haven’t seemed to be slowing down.

They can pivot to making Trump the issue. It worked for Gavin Newsome. Hating Trump is a religion in California, especially San Francisco. Who cares about quality of life?
