Everyone's moving to Texas. Here's why Californians are leaving.
The New York Times via SF Gate ^ | November 23, 2021 | By Farhad Manjoo

The traumas of the past few years have rearranged all of our lives. Many Americans have new needs, new desires, new possibilities and new priorities. They’re looking for bigger homes, second homes or any home at all. They’re searching for work — or trying to escape work. Some fear encroaching heat, fire or flood. Others are repulsed by bitter local politics. Many simply hear the distant siren of a better life elsewhere.

As the Golden Gate shuts, the Lone Star beckons. If you’re looking for an affordable, economically vibrant city that is less likely to be damaged by climate change than many other American cities, our data shows why Texas is a new land of plenty. They have relatively little crime and are teeming with jobs, housing, highly rated schools, good restaurants, clean air and racial and political diversity — all at a steep discount compared to the cost of living in America’s coastal metropolises.

What do Texas cities have that other places don’t? In my searches, there were two preferences that, when combined with jobs, tended to guarantee results in Texas: racial diversity and lower climate risks.

If you select transgender rights or reproductive rights as important to you in our quiz, Texas will plummet in your results. No one in my family is transgender nor likely to be in need of an abortion soon, but could I live in a state that maintains restrictions with which I profoundly disagree? Could I live in a state where the governor tried to ban mask mandates?

Texas, now, feels a bit like California did when I first moved here in the late 1980s — a thriving, dynamic place where it doesn’t take a lot to establish a good life. For many people, that’s more than enough.

Let’s hope these people from California have learned their lessons, and vote Republican when arriving in Texas.

liberals NEVER learn from their mistakes because they’re unable to admit that they make any. It’s always someone else’s fault. Or their favorite “we just didn’t go far enough.” When Biden’s popularity tanked after passing the trillions in wasteful spending his press secretary’s comment was that the popularity drop was because they didn’t pass the whole 3+ trillion.

” less likely to be damaged by climate change”

Liberals just cannot help themselves, can they?

Everything is about the agenda.

“Well Who ruined California?”

In my biased opinion, New Yorkers in the 1970’s.

“Los Angelenos, all come from somewhere.”

Wrong, I was born there, Cedars of Lebanon hospital.

Used to poke Mexican descent co-workers that babbled about the conquista, that I did not care (joke) as I was already a citizen, being born there.

They loved it.

Ridiculous indeed. This lie is asinine, absurd, inane, foolish, and preposterous in its face.

Yes, it does not work that way. Another example is Virginia, where people from MD and DC have trashed the place and move to NOVA, and repeat their same voting habits.

NY Slimes say:

"less likely to be damaged by climate change than many other American cities"

You can't make up this stuff!

Poop on city streets is because of "climate change".

Absolutely ridiculous.

You can say that again, in fact I will. Absolutely ridiculous.

Of course that reveals why Liberals can never seem to solve problems, because they never seem to know what the problem is.

In North Texas, we have copperheads and other poisonous critters. In El Paso, there are scorpions everywhere. And need I say anything about the red ants that have overrun this state?

My sister and BIL are moving here from Reno within the next 12-18 months. It's ok, they've been vetted...lol.

They visited us last summer. Took them to Buc'ees, Fredericksburg and San Antonio. Also spent an afternoon at Lost Oak Winery near Fort Worth. They were ready to move here before the week was out...lol.

I had a great time, too. It was the first time in many trips to Fredericksburg that we made a couple stops at wineries along Winery Road. Menger Hotel in San Antonio was great. I'm sure we had a visit from an apparition, who was playing with our smoke alarm...lol. That hotel just teems with history and paranormal activity. Next time, I'm staying in the Babe Ruth Suite.

I think Houston and a few other areas are Leftist enclaves also.

The major cities are deep Blue enclaves: Dallas, El Paso, Austin, Houston. Fort Worth is about the only major city that is at least purple. The suburbs and the rest of Texas is mostly conservative.

Thanks to gerrymandering, my congressional district (Irving/Coppell/Lewisville) is less than 20% Anglo, 80% POC, mostly Indian/South Asian. They are NOT conservative, instead they're bringing their social mores from India. They blindly voted for Biden, thanks to Kamala.

I hear Irving Texas has the most diverse zip code in the the USA.

Ten years ago, I'd agree with you. Since then, the Indian population has exploded here. It's now 60+ per cent Indian. They're generally nice people, but as they've grown, I've seen more of their social mores that they brought with them. I see those caste markers on the foreheads, and less assimilation is taking place.

Valley Ranch, where I live, has a mosque that is undergoing its third expansion. Our congressional district has been redrawn, made up of 80 per cent POC. Indians have been flocking to Valley Ranch and Frisco.

Having said that, I don't see us moving for several years. I'm now working in Grapevine, less than ten miles away, and my kids and grandkids all live within 45 minutes. Coppell ISD schools are still highly regarded, a new elementary school across the street opened last year.

We're joining the True Texas Project soon, they're having a great impact at the local level.
