Quebec to require vaccine proof for cannabis and liquor shoppers

Retail liquor and cannabis shops in Canada's Quebec province will require shoppers to show proof of vaccination amid a rising surge of new Covid cases.

The new measure goes into effect on Tuesday, 18 January. Health officials say they hope the order will encourage more people to get vaccinated.

New cases are spiking in Quebec despite the region having one of the highest vaccination rates in the world.

On Thursday, health officials warned of a "tsunami" of new hospital admissions.

Quebec Health Minister Christian Dubé told reporters that customers will have to display proof of vaccination to enter the government-run Société des alcools du Québec and Société québécoise du cannabis stores.

"I'm just saying that if you don't want to get vaccinated, stay home," he said, adding that more restrictions are coming soon.

"If unvaccinated people are unhappy about it,"Mr Dubé added, "there's a very simple solution: getting vaccinated."

Proof of vaccine is already required in health facilities, theatres, bars and indoor sport and performance venues.

A curfew is also in place, running from 22:00 to 05:00 each day.

Quebec has a unique legal tradition in North America, very old world. Very Sicilian.

Hi.

It’s not really GMTA, it’s history we should remember when looking at the people ruling us.

Just like your post says.

There is no purchase limit, they will simply have their vaccinated friends purchase.

Unless Canada’s Deep State succeeds in pitting them against one another...

Are you by chance a snowbird?

Canada is very different from the U.S.—and in the end harder to rule because it is so big.

Quebec is Quebec—there is not a real point in getting worked up about it (and I’m less than an hour away). And Canada is really big, as the Arrogant Worms, another Edmonton band points out, and the provinces, for the most part, have a good deal of autonomy.

The Canadian Deep State is not as much to be feared as the U.S. or German Deep states.

Me? Nah, I’m a Florida boy. St. Pete.

Been to Canada a few times. Mainly Toronto, and Windsor.

Ottawa too, but never been out west.

My loss.

Florida is one of five states I haven’t seen. Originally from Oregon, but the bulk of my adult life in Ontario. Mostly a couple hours west of Ottawa, where nothing begins.

I drove into Ottawa yesterday for surgery. Big sign on the front of the hospital saying double vax papers and ID required for entry. I’m not vaxxed, and no ID was required. The government requires the sign, but if you have a need to see the doctor the rule gets set aside. If I was going in to visit someone, the rule likely would have been enforced.

Equal protection under the law is an American thing, and while I generally agree with it, not all places enforce idiotic laws in a completely idiotic way.

They’re still having trouble getting a lot of things

Liquor stores raised enough hell to reopen because the grocery stores and drugstore chains were hogging all of their business

The local cvs emptied their shelve the first couple days

One big downside, a lot of people used the time off to become dependent on booze now. Unfortunately, I know a couple of them

Do you watch hockey? Being from Oregon, I didn’t grow up with it, but have found it to be a very good sport.

The Atlantic Conference (which is home to both Florida teams) doesn’t make any sense until one realizes how many snowbirds are in Florida, and recalls that Detroit and Buffalo are border towns, at which point it becomes the Canadian and Near Canadian Division plus Boston. Lots of fans of the Habs and Leafs in Florida (and likely of the rest of the teams as well).

We watch the Tampa Bay Lightning. Hockey is big in the area. “Champa Bay”

Most of St. Pete Beach, Treasure Island and Mad Beach are owned by Canadians. Little Canada.

Come and get the Stanley cup. Lord Stanley is drunk right now on Pass a Grill beach.

Alas, hockey has gone international, providing employment opportunities for Canadians throughout North America, which means, for the most part, allowing the cup to dwell outside of its native habitat.

Well documented in Warren Zevon’s Hockey Song
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUb0C0iI_GE

The last uninational team to win the cup was a Philadelphia team in the early 70’s composed entirely of mercenaries.

Hmmm, wonder where one could find marijuana or moonshine on the black market? People would never buy things illegally, would they?
