SAN ANTONIO — The FBI raid at U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar's home is part of an ongoing investigation into possible crimes involving American businessmen and Azerbaijan, a source tells CBS News.
Agents took boxes and a computer from the south Texas congressman's Laredo home and office Wednesday, reportedly collecting evidence for a grand jury impaneled in Washington, D.C.
Cuellar, considered one of the most conservative Democrats in the House, co-chairs the Congressional Azerbaijan Caucus.
The oil-rich country, once a member of the Soviet Union, is known for its "caviar diplomacy." As a lobbying strategy, local business leaders and politicians often host foreign diplomats on the Azerbaijan dime.
Campaign finance reports indicate Cuellar has taken $3,500 from a man who broke U.S. ethics laws related to a 2013 congressional trip to the country.

This is huge for Texas. Democrats are eating their own in a Distric where a 2% voter shift would have had Trump winning the Distric.
If Cuellar has to bow out, the district goes red in November.
The SJW replacement candidate for Cuellar (Cisneros) would be roasted by a run of the mill Republican.

The state-owned Azerbaijani oil company allegedly spent hundreds of thousands of dollars in secret to pay for 10 lawmakers and more than 30 staffers to travel to Baku in May 2013 as part of an effort to keep a giant natural gas project exempt from U.S. sanctions on Iran, according to a new report.
Following the May 2013 trip, a provision exempting the Shah Deniz natural gas project was inserted into legislation designed to expand sanctions on Iran. The National Iranian Oil Co. is a partner in the Shah Deniz project, along with SOCAR and other oil companies. Several lawmakers who took part in the Baku trip — Reps. Ted Poe (R-Texas), Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) and former Rep. Steve Stockman (R-Texas) — served on the Foreign Affairs Committee at that time. That committee oversaw the Iranian sanctions legislation.
