Summer of last year, this deal was being discussed. The claim is that China will double up on the import of natural gas (being two to three years in the future). Russians aren’t that worried if the Nord Stream II project drops.

Most nations discuss oil deals well in advance of the actual official signing. Putin took Gasprom officials with him to this meeting with Xi so I suspect they will make their official announcement at the press briefing after signing.

And again this is billions of dollars. So I think as long as Xi needs the oil Xi and Putin are going to be cozy “business” partners. ...

Meanwhile Putins building up his agricultural areas in a big way. Especially in the Southern parts.

It should be interesting to see if China can hold its end of the deal with its population in the midst of collapsing.

Yes, but China is in a demographic downward spiral that is similar to Russia.

Russia is halving itself every generation.
China might also be on the trajectory.

Current agreements are not future prognostications.

Biden approves unless the natural gas pipeline is in the US and has US Jobs.

Gotta send those US jobs like Obama did Overseas.

All the Trump-Russia stuff and Biden immediately rolled over to Putin on the pipeline. Should I mention Hillary Clinton and Uranium One? Democrats always accuse Republicans of doing what they’re doing or would like to do. Remember how they called Trump a “Fascist”? And now Biden tries to force businesses into vaccine mandates. Liberals project their own corruption onto their opponents.

Nord Stream II is a round about to Germany and the EU. They do not have to pay the fees that the Ukraine charges them for the use of their pipes.

And where does the EU and Germany think they're going to get their gas from?? The USA?? That ain't gonna happen.

That's why it makes no sense that we are in anyway involved in this mele.

The deal will be settled in euros, the person added

Significant detail. Something like 60% of the world's currency reserves are in US dollars - several trillion - but that is declining and deals like this will maintain the trend.

There was chatter in 2019 with Trump talking about this scenario, and Germany agreed it’d build a port (near Hamburg) for these type of vessels.

The funding for the LNG vessel port? Zero. The Bundestag refused to put money into this.

They (the gov’t) admitted about ten days ago....there is no real reserve now. Various people are standing there and thinking for weeks....the reserve existed.

People say Putin needs Ukraine for food...not so. IIRC, they only import 2% of their food and I believe that’s mainly fruits.

The US successfully merged two powers who should rightfully be mortal enemies.

Great. /s

Problem is, it’s not just democrats who are responsible and some FReepers’ positions on Russia promoted the predictable effects.
