It would hit Alina Black at Trader Joe’s, a wave of guilt and shame that made her skin crawl. Something as simple as nuts. They came wrapped in plastic, often in layers of it, that she imagined leaving her house and traveling to a landfill, where it would remain through her lifetime and the lifetime of her children.
She longed, really longed, to make less of a mark on the earth. At the age of 37, these conflicting forces were slowly closing on her, like a set of jaws. In the early-morning hours, after nursing the baby, she would slip down a rabbit hole, scrolling through news reports of droughts, fires, mass extinction. Then she would stare into the dark. It was for this reason that, around six months ago, she searched “climate anxiety” and pulled up the name of Thomas J. Doherty, a Portland psychologist who specializes in climate.
A decade ago, Dr. Doherty and a colleague, Susan Clayton, published a paper proposing a new idea. They argued that climate change would have a powerful psychological impact — not just on the people bearing the brunt of it, but on people following it through news and research. At the time, the notion was seen as speculative.
That skepticism is fading. Eco-anxiety, a concept introduced by young activists, has entered a mainstream vocabulary. And professional organizations are hurrying to catch up, exploring approaches to treating anxiety that is both existential and, many would argue, rational.
Though there is little empirical data on effective treatments, the field is expanding swiftly. The Climate Psychology Alliance provides an online directory of climate-aware therapists; the Good Grief Network, a peer support network modeled on 12-step addiction programs, has spawned more than 50 groups; professional certification programs in climate psychology have begun to appear.

This isn't climate anxiety or anything new. "Karen" is a classic neurotic. Nothing "Karen" does can ever make her happy.
I live your comment about New Yorkers getting hysterical about a 1 degree “Global Warming” increase and seeking therapy, then moving to 30 degree warmer Florida.
Those people are absolutely nuts. Insane.
Oh, something akin to the early 19th Century “Millerites” who camped out awaiting the end of the world...until they got bored and went home.
I turn on all my floodlights every year during “Earth Hour”
HAH!
Sounds like SOMEONE needs to get laid.
I was kind of accepting global warming in the 30% range or so. But after the great Covid scamdemic, that could have been lessened 90% by widespread pressure and Govt propaganda to take lots more vitamin D3. Even distributing D3 for free.....
I now see global warming and climate change as 100% scam, delusion and idiocy. That like Covid, they/PTB want to wreck our economy over. Global warming is more mass formation psychosis, promoted by the media and the usual suspects.
I tend to agree with that, but last summer in the Pacific Northwest was REALLY weird. We went from a normal 4 or 5 days above 90 degrees in North Idaho to FORTY days over 90. It wasn’t a small increase of a few days, but a factor of TEN. I’m s deep skeptic and the COVID “pandemic” has taught me a lot about the evil of government and how they own the medical industry leading me to have zero trust in both of them. But the temps last summer were really strange.
I used to save all my plastic bags, and burn them at that time. Just my little contribution to globull warming, because I hate being cold. :-)
I burn 4 used tires!
But, wait just a minute. You are telling me this is Government’s fault? We are paying Government for a royal screwing?
What happened to “We the People?
Have they lost their minds actually paying Government for the privilege of being screwed?
Good response.
There are not of leftist nuts out there and some are psychologists/therapists.
That certainly is extreme summer weather for where you are. But then this spring and summer will be normal. I hear that the Pacific NW and California have been in general drought conditions for the last 2-3 years.
Not surprising. Mass formation psychosis. Climate change brainwashing has been going on for years.

These sad people do not have anxiety because of climate change. Climate change is imperceptible. They have anxiety because of a sustained media campaign fostering fear of man made catastrophic climate change, coupled with a profound lack of ability to process information rationally and critically. The first is a crime perpetrated by the media and politicians. the second is a crime perpetrated by the education establishment.
The antidote is not therapy, especially by unethical psychologists, but rather learning critical thinking. The facts will speak for themselves. But they might need therapy later for their anger issues when they discover how they have been lied to for so many years.
In a few years, when the cooling becomes obvious and widely-recognized, you’ll start seeing REAL anxiety.
Over 30 years at this point. I remember when Captain Planet was on TV, on TBS.

The plastic in her toothbrush & hairbrush & comb will last much longer than some wrapping from the store..
Where there's money to be made, someone will rush to fill a market void. Even if they have to create it by preying on people's weaknesses.
