DETROIT – Canadian officials are preparing to move against a group of truck drivers who have blocked the nation’s busiest border bridge between the U.S. and Canada in protest of the country’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate.
The blockade, now in its fifth day, has brought traffic to a halt over the Ambassador Bridge between Detroit, Mich. and Windsor, Ontario, which accounts for a quarter of goods traded between the two countries.
Ontario Premier Doug Ford Friday declared a state of emergency in the Canadian providence, saying at a news conference that authorities plan to enact temporary orders that will fine protesters blocking the bridge up to $100,000 and sentence them to up to a year in jail.
“Make no mistake: this is a pivotal moment for our nation. The eyes of the world are upon us right now, and what they are seeing is not who we are,” he said. “As a province, as a nation, we must collectively draw a line. We must stand for the values that define us.”
Authorities also will take away the personal or commercial driver’s licenses of anyone who defies the orders, Ford said, calling for the truckers and other protesters to peacefully go home.

my guess is that this will backfire and result in hundreds of more truckers showing up at the locations.
Trudeau is begging for a general trucker strike and a blockade everywhere.
The only way to get those trucks off the bridge is if they drive off.

Good grief, will someone take this moron aside and explain to her m all he has to do is revoke the mandates like the other provinces have done and the problem goes away.
These threats will cost him his job because if they go home they may just stay there while the world food program delivers rice, beans and vegetable oil so the people of Ottawa and Toronto don’t starve. How “powerful” will he feel then?
He should have been pressed on what values he is talking about.

If he causes a ruckus he’ll end up unemployed like his brother.
Hard to imagine that rather than doing the right thing and unhitch himself from Brandeau, Ford goes all in and doubles/triples down more. The stupidity is breathtaking and June 2 can’t come soon enough for the people of Ontario.
Do these people have no sense of self introspection? No shame? No emotional iq? Its profound how obtuse they are.
Lotsa lies there eh. Ford is waiting for chips. Unless the are cow chips or wood chips the supply comes via ships from Taiwan Japan or Intel not Canada.

I don’t think they noticed but it seems to me that each attack on the truckers is met by another escalation in another location by the truckers.
Make no mistake, this is all about little fascists deathly afraid of losing their power over the folks. The government here is the one doing the illegal things, not the people.
