Nowruz is an ancient Persian celebration of the first day of Springtime. It predates Islam by at least a thousand years, from the days of Zoroastar.

The Mullahs do not approve of Nowruz. But it is so ingrained in the Persian culture that there is little the Muslim clerics can do about it. Celebrating Nowruz is a poke in the eye to the Mullahs.

Depends on which Iranians he is pandering to. There are the old Shah loyalists, who consider themselves pure Persians- they usually make goid citizens, very patriotic and pro-America. Then there are the more recent immigrants, who were sent here to spy on the former and do the bidding of the Ayatollas back home.

I said Iran rather then Iranians (or Persians) for that very reason.
