“Black” is about to be a very contentious definition.

If we have multiple genders, and no definition of ‘woman’, it’s preposterous to assume any simple definition exists.

There can be all manner of black, black black, brown black, “red and yellow, black and white” black. And albinos that are black or anyone that identifies as black.

Some days this aging 6 ft Irish guy identifies as a young 7 ft black man in the NBA, but still can’t dunk a basketball, and there’s no money in the bank.

Maybe I’ll move to California for reparations.

Again, the precedent has been set with Native American tribes.

One money is involved, definitions matters. There are a lot of people who used to believe they were in a tribe, used to live on a reservation, that suddenly were told “You are not one of us, get out!” once the tribal money started rolling in.

There will be a strict percentage of slave blood needed to get money, perhaps a sliding scale.

Note it will not be African ancestry. The African Americans hate Africans.

“... but reverberates to this day.”

The only thing that “reverberates” is the relentless, non-ending 4th generation victimhood narrative that refuses to die because of the inane freebies that it continues to generate to this day.

“systemic racism in housing, education, employment””

I went to a one room school. 8 grades 14 kids 1 teacher

Then to a small high school—4 grades=less than 600 persons.

I did all my farm chores with the animals AND I did my homework and I turned it in on time & took all the tests the teachers required. I was on the Honor Roll. I skipped ONE day of school in my entire life—and served detention for doing that.

I was RECRUITED when still in high school by Kroger Divisional office supervisors. ( SUCH RECRUITMENT WAS COMMON IN 1957) Went to work there when I was 17, doing accounting. Worked at other major companies thru my younger years, doing accounting-—Oscar Mayer—Snap-On -—Coopers (Jockey Underwear)—American Motors—Universal Studios—and smaller companies thru the years.

I moved to So Calif in 1964. Was treated to an up close & personal view of the Watts riots-—such fun. Then the midnight chase of Rodney King going over 100 MPH in a YUGO.... MORE ‘education’ of a different kind with the riots that caused. Worked thru illegal strikes when I was a grocery cashier—threatened—told them if THEY started ANYTHING against me- I WOULD FINISH IT.

I took night classes when I was 29 and took every Accounting class available. Got 4.0 in every class....after working 10 hour days in my full time job & often 6 day weeks. They were BUSY.

In 1966, I bought my 2nd house (Owned a mobile home in a trailer park in Kenosha when I worked at American Motors) and I was making about $6 an hour. I worked full time, and did accounting for small businesses at night & on weekends.

In 1980, I walked out of a full time job with $69 in the bank & all my current bills up to date, including mortgage payments. I went out on my own-self-employed, doing accounting/bookkeeping for small businesses that did NOT need a full time person. I SCRAMBLED for clients, but I found work. I worked many a night into the midnight hours, and all reports & government forms got done on time. Did all the bookkeeping work myself for a variety of businesses. 2 CPA’s thought enough of me to recommend me when they had clients with poor bookkeeping. Took one job behind an EMBEZZLER-—THAT was interesting !!!

I moved to N Calif in 1993, when I had 19 active clients. I was able to keep 2 of those clients & they MAILED their data to me & I did the work & mailed it all back. One of those clients retired in 2019, and I had done the books for that company for 46 years, as I started with them (& others) at night & on weekends. The ONE remaining client I have is still active—I sent back his data in Feb==52 years.

One client I picked up in N Calif: I interviewed with her on Jan 28 or 29. She had not done any of her quarterly payroll reports, and her records were a mess. She needed to hand out W-2’s to her employees Jan 31. I worked LONG hours & got all of her payroll data cleaned up & W-2;s typed for her to hand out at 8 AM on Feb 1. Less than 8 total employees-—BUT it GOT DONE.

I moved from N Calif in 2004 & bought my current 5+++ acre property free & clear.

AT NO TIME did I STEAL a job from a black person.

AT NO TIME did I get any test or homework answers from a black person.

AT NO TIME did I push a black person OUT of their job so I could have the job.

AT NO TIME did I push a black person out of a class or a school.

AT NO TIME did I EVER see a different set of books or tests for a black person. ALL the books were identical.

AT NO TIME did I push a black person out of a neighborhood.

I learned the skills I have & I was RELIABLE for getting the job done. That reputation is what I have had since 1957. IF I told someone I would do the work-—the WORK GOT DONE.

I DO NOT owe a penny to any person who claims to be owed a damn thing.

I am TIRED of being hammered for being diligent in my field of work.

I BET I AM NOT ALONE.

My U.S. History might be a little rusty, but... Wasn't California a Free State (i.e., no slavery ever, and on the Union side during the Civil War)?!

Similar to my recollection of U.S. History classes. I was taught that California was a Free State, and that caused a lot of arguing that led to the Civil War, because both sides wanted California to align with them. There was also talk of splitting California into two, with the northern half joining the Union while the southern half joined the confederates. Too bad that split didn't occur, as differences between the two halves are still there.

I think that your timeline is a little mixed up here, or you are conflating separate issues.

While the admission to the Union of California on Sept. 9, 1850 was one of the outcomes of the "Compromise of 1850," and its admission does follow the "Missouri Compromise" of 1820 (which bisected the nation at latitude 36°30' N and would have led to a "State of N. CA" and "State of S. CA"), California was actually not a "highly-contested property" in the Free State / Slave State issue, and there was never any real doubt as to the status it would have after admission.

There were other territories that were admitted alternately as Free States / Slave States in an ultimately futile effort to "maintain a balance." And, after the Civil War broke out, the Confederacy did suddenly lay claim to various western territories below the aforementioned parallel.

Regards,

Not according to what I was taught in my history classes. There was much conflict in California between the two sides, and the U.S. government sent troops to forts throughout California to quell secessionists activity, many activists were arrested or fled and led confederate battles in the South. Much of this secessionist activity occurred after the Compromise of 1850, and continued to the Civil War. History is clear on this.
