Protesters marched on the homes of conservative Supreme Court Justices over the weekend, an ugly attempt to scare them into saving Roe v. Wade. This week the drama moves to the Senate, where Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer plans a vote on a sweeping bill to override state laws and set a national abortion policy.
House Democrats passed the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) last year, but it stalled in the Senate. It’s expected to fail again this week. But that isn’t stopping Mr. Schumer, who is refusing to take up a bill by GOP Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski, who have their own proposal to codify Roe v. Wade. “I have long supported a woman’s right to choose,” Ms. Murkowski said, “but my position is not without limits, and this partisan Women’s Health Protection Act simply goes too far.”
*** Bill Clinton’s artful framing was that abortion should be “safe, legal and rare,” but that’s ancient history to today’s Democrats. The WHPA would guarantee abortion access “at any point or points in time prior to fetal viability,” about 23 weeks. Women seeking such services could not be asked to “disclose the patient’s reason.” Some states have tried to prohibit sex-selective abortion, the practice usually of terminating a girl merely because a boy is desired. The WHPA appears to protect that choice.
After fetal viability, the WHPA would assure a right to an abortion whenever the physician’s “good-faith medical judgment” is that “the pregnancy would pose a risk to the pregnant patient’s life or health.” What counts as “health”? This is sometimes defined to include mental, emotional or familial factors, a loophole that permits elective abortions, more or less, through all nine months of pregnancy.

The government needs to take the stance that each fetus is a person and that it is a future citizen and tax payer, and as such, its rights need to be protected from the moment of conception. In other words, its in the government’s best interest from a revenue perspective to have that baby delivered since it will fund the government in the future via its taxes. Clearly, this is a cynical way to look at the situation but it makes sense from a logic-based approach and would probably be upheld in court.
It also achieves the moral imperative of saving the babies’ lives.
I have never understood the democrats stance that there should be no capital punishment for the most villainous among us, but there should be murder of the most innocent among us. You really need look no further than this to see how tainted by evil and essentially irredeemable these people are.
There are supposed to be a few votes in the Senate, aren’t there?
There’s no way they have 60 votes to end a filibuster. I heard that the next step will be a motion to change the filibuster rule, which would take 50 votes plus Kamala’s tie breaking vote.
Then, if that filibuster rule change succeeds, then they would again try to pass it, with 50 votes plus Kamala breaking the tie.
Stay tuned. Will Manchin and Sinema hold fast on the filibuster rule? What about moderate Republicans who want abortion rights such as Susan Collins?
Chuck Schumer says to his cousin Amy (alleged comedian...) Hey Amy, when are you gonna kill that baby of yours?
I think we need to have public service programs, featuring a live abortion procedure. The abortion crowd refers to a fetus as nothing but blood and tissue, which is what is left after the baby has been sucked from the womb. That would certainly change the “ALMOST PEACEFUL ABORTION” theory.
“The government needs to take the stance that each fetus is a person and that it is a future citizen and tax payer, and as such, its rights need to be protected from the moment of conception.”
I agree with you but I think the method of doing that is with a Constiutional amendment that imposes it on the government, not legislation that can be more easily reversed.
Very good point. This is something that is so important that it shouldn’t be left to the whims of petty dictators to change according to winds of politics.
I so wish that science was at the point where we could determine if a fetus was going to be homosexual or not.
Then, advocate for aborting all homosexuals and see how the left reacts.
One expressed purpose of the Constitution, as iterated in the preamble, is to secure the right to life. One cannot swear to uphold and defnd the Constitution and then advocate for abortion.
“I so wish that science was at the point where we could determine if a fetus was going to be homosexual or not.”
Don’t bet on it. I don’t think it is determined by DNA.
I think it is a choice, though most people do not understand the complexity of what choice is during the progress from infancy to maturity. Many choices are not the big results we see, but tiny choices that over time, in years, add up to something we identify with (”I like blue”) and because the route to it was not noticed at the time, the person concludes that choice was always with them.
What the activists deny is that nurture - life experience in all its dimensions - is a big part of the road to maturity and cannot be dismissed as playing no role in the big things we identity with. Things are often assumed to be innate only because we were not recording the many little quirks in the path that got us there, and truly were often not even taking notice of them, though reacting to them we did.
“I think we need to have public service programs, featuring a live abortion procedure.”
I agree. I think every broadcast, cable and streaming service ought to be forced to simulcast such a show on the same nite for two hours in prime time - 8pm to 10pm.
The ghouls would say, such a program would be too traumatic, “especially for the children”……. and that is exactly what the bigots would moronically say.
“In other words, its in the government’s best interest from a revenue perspective to have that baby delivered since it will fund the government in the future via its taxes.”
In the end government ends up representing the will of the majority, and if the majority decides that their convenience (which is what abortion is all about) is more important than tax revenues, abortion will win.
Of course there will be long term consequences, but these people don’t care.
The Schumer bill will backfire bigly on the dimocrats, exposing them as murderers right up to the moment of birth and forcing dimocrat senators in red and purple states to defend that position.
Love the pic.
It’s like they are all worshiping before some pagan god.
