Not Sessions and Pence. They always supported him

okay my problem is NOT with the marathon- i don’t care what this kid does. He’s not mine.
I did not care for the tone- “he was adamant that he would run the marathon.”
He’s six, does not set policy. That’s all.
I used the bus as an example. Little kids usually don’t get to do what they want just because they WANT to, at least not at my house.
I do not care how far you walked when you were young or how far you walk now. Truly i do not.

In Kindergarten I walked a mile alone to school and back every day.

In my case it was uphill both ways

Kentucky has an odious Democrat for a governor.

Yep, early in COVID he sent the State Police to prevent a church congregation from being more than 50 people.

My kids all rode 25 mile bike rides beginning at age 5. In the street

Let me see. I must be a horrible father because 3 years ago I let my, then 6 year old son, start Taekwondo. He had asthma and had been hospitalized three times for pneumonia. He would get a cough frequently that could advance to pneumonia so it had to be watched closely.

During Taekwondo practice I watched him closely. When he appeared to be having difficulty breathing I would make him sit down, drink water and dry off the sweat, even though it was not “water break” time.

Twice in the past 3 years he had mild pneumonia, (because I caught it early). He is now getting ready to promote to Red Belt and is going to compete in a parring tournament later this month. He is one of the top students in his gym and has had very positive reviews by the Philippine Taekwondo Association officials.

We, as parents, with consultation with our child’s pediatrician, know what our child can and cannot handle. Leave us alone!!!

I think you might have put your own spin on it. I read it that the child wanted to, his parents thought that if he wanted to try they were willing to back him. Nothing wrong with that. Kids’ desires are the lever you have to shape their behavior. They will work harder & follow directions even better if they are working towards something they want.

Does not compute.
IMO dogmatically making pronouncements about what “all kids” can and can’t do is not valid. I am not the one that started calling people dumb. I just reflected back your own words and gave you evidence that kids do join marathons. Without knowing the kid, knowing the family, knowing the kids regular activity level my instinct would be to trust the family especially since the evidence suggests they were not the instigators and they made sure the boy was hydrated & moved at his own pace.

Then you should bow out of the conversation about another person’s kid. You don’t live there, neither do I. What I’m saying is that if you do not let your kids experience life, you are doing them a grave disservice. The six-year-old in this story probably took on more than he could chew. That’s a great lesson. CPS should never be involved with that. They would get the door slammed in their faces if it was me.

That is really strange.
The article doesn’t say he had a tantrum. One of my sons really wanted to learn Russian. I thought it would be good mental discipline and keep him engaged in thinking rather than mischief. If he hadn’t been very strong in his desire to learn Russian I wouldn’t have committed my time & money to the endeavor. You measure how strong a kids desire is to do something before you get the equipment, start the music lessons, commit to tennis lessons etc. We never decided what extracurricular activities our 4 did. We waited until they expressed a strong interest.

Race against the grade schoolers in South Florida!

They’ll kick your but while they run barefoot.

Honestly, it’s embarrassing!
These kids are tough.
...and I have MANY more years experience than they do, am lean and in fighting shape at 59, 6’ 169# rock solid runner weight lifter at 9-11% body fat, running for 40 years.

Running is their life.
Parents probably trained them.

If you’re not into the running world, you may not understand and that’s ok.

Respectfully,

...that is all
