My daughter in an editorial assistant for a medium sized publisher. In the last two years from home she has managed the publishing or new edition release of 400 titles.
I’d say she’s pretty darn efficient from her kitchen table.
Her boss wants her back at the office, where she’s less efficient.
She has an interview this week with another publisher for an all remote position.
In my case, the 1970s, working as a programmer analyst sitting in rows of desks in an open office, and the chiefs and supervisors in windowed cubicles behind all the rows. As one gained seniority, you moved from the front row to the next one to the rear. When someone got chewed out by a screaming boss, everyone could see it.
Congrats to your daughter, you must be very proud of her! My younger daughter started in editing and writing for publishers, then moved on to technical writing for firms. She also works from her home office, and says the company prefers that workers work remotely from home. They collaborate via video conferencing on computers. Company paid for their home equipment - desks, chairs, swing arms and multiple computers. Have your daughter ask if her publisher will provide the home equipment at their cost.
You do know that it's worse than that today. Every keystroke, every website visited, every phone call made, is being recorded and logged today. That goes for remote workers too (that have to VPN in).
And more competent workers will move right into Tesla. This is Musk. The best people want to work for him.
Just how do you manufacture cars at the factory if you insist on staying at home?
Tesla is a car making company.
Explain to me how you manufacture cars and batteries by staying at home.
Tesla is not Google, who don’t actually make anything.
There is as much “staff” as there are wrench pullers.
You don’t work at a car factory like Tesla.
You got to be there at the factory to make the cars. You can’t to it remotely.
Tell that to the marines next time you try to go to a restaurant. They will stay home too and tell you to cook your own food.
Chuckle.
Yup.
“Just how do you manufacture cars at the factory if you insist on staying at home?”
Only a few people actually lay hands on the cars.
“Most companies allow about 2 hours of work a week at best.”
Sounds like Peter Gibbons in “Office Space” in his interview with The Bobs.
It has only gotten much worse since 1999 when Office Space came out.
Most Tesla workers are factory workers.
Don’t believe everything you think.
Have you ever worked at a large manufacturing company?
They have accounting departments, human resources, attorneys and regulatory relations and public relations types, purchasing agents, etc etc etc.....
Separating the wheat from the chaff.
Why not?
Easy enough to check.
Plus it makes plenty of sense.
Yes
They have accounting departments, human resources, attorneys and regulatory relations and public relations types, purchasing agents, etc etc etc.....
Every company has those. And Tesla doesn't even advertise their product.
Big manufacturing companies have even more factory workers to actually MAKE the products. You can't do that sitting at home.
