Ohio Senate race in virtual deadlock: poll

The Ohio Senate race between Republican J.D. Vance and Rep. Tim Ryan (D) is in a virtual deadlock, according to a new poll.

The USA Today Network Ohio-Suffolk University survey released Wednesday found that Vance leads Ryan by just more than 2 percentage points among likely Ohio voters, well within the margin of error.

Vance received the support of 41.6 percent of voters questioned compared to Ryan’s 39.4 percent. Almost 17 percent of respondents remain undecided in the closely watched race to replace retiring Sen. Rob Portman (R).

Additionally, 39.8 percent of respondents had a favorable view of Ryan, compared to the 34.6 who said the same about Vance.

While support for the candidates largely falls upon party lines, Ryan is trying to appeal to moderates in an attempt to take away more votes from Vance, who struggled for much of the primary race to break out of the middle of the pack. Vance’s popularity improved among voters after former President Trump endorsed him in mid-April, and many saw Vance’s performance in the primary as a key test of Trump’s strength within the GOP.

David Paleologos, director of Suffolk University’s Political Research Center, said that Ryan may lose some ground as Ohio residents grow more frustrated with the economy and President Biden’s leadership.

Mail in ballots should be flooding everyone’s mail any day now.

It would be interesting to know who is bankrolling Tim Ryan’s election campaign.

He has been running commercials for the November election four to five times a day that I have seen, starting the evening of the primary.
(Plus all those I haven’t seen!)

Who is paying for this?

That makes sense. Why would someone want to vite for one Democrat, over the other?

“....Rural folks here are fired up. I live in SE Ohio..”

Yet Ohio returned DeWine as GOP flag bearer over two more conservative/trustworthy candidates.

Renacci and Blystone knifed each other splitting 49% and let DeWeener scuttle back in with 48%....now DeWine faces the Dayton mayor he was tongue swapping and butt squeezing with on the Red Flag Law.

Ohio has kept Portman, a well meaning spineless cupcake, and Sherrod Brown, an arrogant urban Trotskyite in office.

I pray Vance pulls it out as easily as Freeper’s think.
I pray he also does act like a pragmatist....which is what he is at heart.

Freedom is not pragmatic unless freedom is your goal.
Freedom is costly.

Otherwise, Ohio with Dewine as governor....if he wins....and two gun banning commies in the US Senate will be a living hell for gun owners.

DeWine’s base hates him. He may lose! 48% of the GOP is at most 25% of the general vote.

Well so was Trump/Biden in 2020, until Trump won Ohio by 9 points. Ohio polls tend to oversample democrats.

Not on the ground in Ohio, but find this poll a bit hard to believe

Democrats are always way ahead or almost tied in polling. These are done to maximize Democrat turnout. They said Jimmy Carter and Reagan were neck and neck.

They are cherry picking races now, like watering plants.

I would disagree that Ohio is “red”. Ohio is “GOP”. But the Republican leaders in Ohio are the biggest scumbag slimeballs that have ever walked the earth. I am 100% certain that they would rather have Ryan than a Trump endorsed Vance. In six years they can run another deep state insider to try and take the seat back. The last thing they want is a MAGA to become entrenched in that seat.

I’ll bet they will be able to make it happen.

Tim Ryan has higher name recognition and a stronger political base than Vance to start with. Given that reality, this is a very good poll - 39% for someone with that advantage is actually a very bad number for him regardless of the fact he’s only down 2 points - he has far less room to grow support vs. Vance and he’s already behind, even if only very marginally. Vance and the GOP can’t rest, however - he must increase his own favorables - this poll is essentially saying “we don’t want to vote for the Democrat but aren’t quite sure yet how we feel about Vance.”

Nope. Few in Ohio have warmed up to Vance.

Lincoln Project? You’d think Ryan was MAGA if you didn’t know any better.

Cleveland didn't pull the pin on the vote fraud machine in 2020. They stood down.

Look for the Media to gin up some "controversy" to explain the "voters" pouring out of the Biden Basements to "vote" for the Dem - unless the mail ballot drop box watchers prevent that maneuver.

The Soros factor means that Ryan has a lock...

For Soros (and Bezos) a mere two-point deficit is easy to handle with a shoulder shrug and a few million dollars...

They proved that in 2020...

Vance is MIA in Ohio. Not a news story, appearance, ad - nothing.

I think this guy has the worst campaign I’ve ever seen. Scared to death he will lose RINO Portman’s seat to a demorat.

That’s not good. I am hoping he revs it up in the fall. I think the Democrats are throwing lots of money into Ryan’s campaign. I hope the Republicans do the same for Vance.

He should lose that beard and drop 30 pounds. Ryan looks like a Senator from Ohio even though he is a liberal nutjob. Vance looks like a pit boss at an expensive casino.

Vance is invisible in Ohio. Republicans don’t even know he is running.
